My name is Amy Margolis. I am a licensed therapist and Co-Clinical Director of Santa Monica Counseling. With a background in eating disorders, addictions, anxiety, depression and related issues, I work with individuals and couples and run groups for clients challenged in these areas. I am also a supervisor for ASWs and AMFTs gaining their clinical hours.
The purpose of my website is to help you learn about my practice philosophy and whether working with me might be a fit. Therapy is most effective when the connection between the client and the therapist is good. I know it can be overwhelming to make that choice. You get referrals from friends, medical professionals or insurance companies and you are already overburdened by the crisis causing you to seek out treatment in the first place.

Services
I received my Bachelors in Elementary Education and Psychology and my Masters in Social Work in Boston and have been working in the field of mental health for over 20 years. My first job out of graduate school was at Catholic Home Bureau in NYC, where I treated birthmothers, experiencing unplanned pregnancies and couples struggling with infertility issues; as well as families created through adoption and the ensuing issues in the adoption triad.
I am an integrative therapist, who sees my clients as unique individuals. One size does not fit all when it comes to therapy. I draw on psychodynamic techniques, and when appropriate utilize EMDR, when helping clients heal old wounds and identify their impact on their present lives. Yet I employ behavioral/cognitive techniques when helping clients to make necessary changes to feel empowered and successful on their journey.

Amy is the best therapist I've ever had and met in my whole life. I've gone through several therapists in the past--no one compares. She is wholeheartedly so kind, generous, open, warm, flexible, intelligent and above all nurturing and fun. If you want to heal and learn about yourself then please don't waste your time and see her! I started therapy with her three years ago, with a lot of hesitancy and low expectations, but with very clear goals of what I wanted to work on. Immediately, after our first session, I was hooked and now can't imagine life without it. She makes every

I've been with Amy for over 3 years and participate in her individual, group and couple's sessions. From the beginning, Amy has been kind, attentive and flexible with me and continues to consistently provide meaningful support. I truly believe that had it not been for my sessions with her, my life wouldn't be as healthy and well-balanced as its grown to be. She does an incredible job at making sure I feel comfortable, safe and supported while also showing me that I deserve to have space to be who I am, have a confident voice and tools to use while I work through the ebb and flow

Amy is one of the best therapists I have ever had. She helped me overcome
an eating disorder that I had been struggling with for years. Our sessions
helped me not only heal my eating disorder but take the steps to get sober.
Thanks to Amy, I am not only bulimia and alcohol free, I am on my way to
becoming a therapist!

Amy Margolis has been my therapist for a few years now, and my life could
not have changed more since I started seeing her. When I first started
therapy, I was at one of the lowest points in my life. My lifestyle was reckless
and dangerous, my relationships were falling apart, and I had found myself

changed. She led me through one of the darkest times of my life, and helped
me to process everything I had been going through in a safe place. Amy has

Quite simply, Amy helped me with my life. She's easy to talk to and helped me to understand and express my feelings when I couldn't. She empathized with me and showed genuine concern in helping through issues and setting goals and plans. She's always been very flexible and available when I
needed her and even checked in with me. Amy is one of the best people I've ever met and I feel I can trust her with anything. She's caring, knowledgeable, and very good at what she does.

Amy is fantastic! She is well-rounded in her understanding of the many
different challenges people face in life, and she gives you solid tools for
meeting them. Amy is warm, relatable and I always come away from session
with a sense of new-found HOPE and a healthier perspective. I have
recommended her many times and will always go to her first for resources.
Thank You so much Amy!
