Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art and combat sport that teaches a smaller person how to defend themselves against a larger adversary by using leverage and proper technique. The Gracie family, the founders of BJJ, modified judo and traditional Japanese martial arts to create what we know today as Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Here at Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Carlsbad, we focus on the basic fundamentals of self-defense found in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. With traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, a Gi or Kimono is used as the formal attire. Whereas in No Gi Jiu-Jitsu, as the name suggests, no Gi or Kimono is used and the formal attire is often t-shirt and shorts or a variety of rashguards and spats/leggings.

If you're looking for a fun great way to get in shape, learn self defense, and meet a lot of very cool and supportive friends this is the place to go! Mark is an incredible instructor with tons of experience not only in Jiu-Jitsu but also MMA! I highly recommend Alliance Carlsbad to anybody, novice or veteran to the sport!

My first year of jiu-jitsu has been amazing. I was intimidated at first, but the professors were so patient and professional and the other members were so welcoming and helpful, I quickly got over that and began to enjoy learning. I only wish I'd started sooner! If you're thinking of learning a new skills, trying something different, or facing your fears, this is a great place to dive right in.

Great place to train and to get a great exercise in. If you are looking to just do it for fun or to compete, they have top notch instructors and great students all around. Great group of guys with very flexible class schedules. Love their morning, afternoon and night time classes.
Muay Thai kickboxing classes are great with awesome instructors. If you get a chance, drop by and try them out. Couldn’t recommend them enough!

One of the best if not the best jiujitsu school around. I signed up as a blue belt and have been working hard to reach that purple. Things are going great, it's a great atmosphere to learn and get better. We drill and explore techniques, work hard and have fun. There are some great competitors that are working hard to build a tight game. Training with them can get fast and challenging, but it's technical and rewarding.

I started my training sessions at Alliance Jiu-Jitsu Carlsbad for Muay Thai and I am very much impressed with the skills and knowledge that the instructors bring. The coaches are the best, the environment is great, and the fees are more than reasonable. I totally recommend this place to everyone reading this. Thumbs up.

Their beginner fundamentals classes are fantastic! Professor Johnny Souza really took the time to teach me the basic drills and positions and it made all the difference. I’ve never done Jiujitsu before trying Alliance Carlsbad so it was a little intimidating but the instructors here are amazing. Very understanding and patient. Facilities were very clean and they have a shower on site so I don’t have to drive home in my sweaty clothes. So happy I was able to find this place and give it a try!

Best place to train in Carlsbad, no question about it! Everyone is super helpful toward each other and especially for people who are new to jiu-jitsu like myself. The facilities are clean and modern. I love that they have showers that I can use before I head off to work in the morning. I noticed a huge improvement in my overall fitness after just a few weeks of consistently attending classes. Would definitely give this place 2 thumbs up.

I simply love this place. Alliance Carlsbad is filled with good vibes and everyone is super friendly and there is no ego when training here. Everyone helps to improve one another and students and instructors take the time to show technique in detail. My kids refer to their time on the mats as “fun night.” They often ask if they can stop by to tell the coaches the highlights in their life. All the coaches are amazing with both the kids and adults. It’s a place everyone in the family enjoys spending time. Can we get a 6 star option?

Their kids class here is the best! My daughter has been training here for almost a year now and they run an amazing kids program. There are always 3-4 instructors and assistants in each class. Everyone is very patient and friendly. My daughter loves the classes and tells me everyday that she can’t wait to go to jiu-jitsu after class. Definitely worth it to check these guys out!
