Kirsten Arvenitis is owner of The Original Sewing Room, now based in downtown Parker, Colorado. With experience starting in the 1980s in the New York bridal market and design education at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Kirsten specializes in custom gowns and altering wedding gowns, pageant gowns and special occasion gowns.
One of the most important parts of any bride's day is what she will wear. Whether the dress is long or short, old or new, white or pastel, or maybe not even a dress at all, it should fit properly and make the bride feel fabulous. So, now that you have your dress, how do you get a custom fit? Not all tailors and seamstresses are the same.
A: My love of fashion and garment construction developed at an early age. I went to college in New York City to further my education in the business aspect of the fashion industry. I quickly realized that my passion was in the creative, hands-on part of the business. I have always been drawn to bridal gowns and their special place in the marriage celebration.

Kirsten was so helpful and professional. In the two alterations appointments I had with her, she helped me choose between two sizes (I brought them both in, and returned the other later), smoothed out the bust, added cups, shortened straps, reinforced the sides, hemmed, bustled (3 point), and steamed the dress. Everything fit on the first try. All her recommendations were spot on, and I'm glad I trusted in her expertise vs. doing what I went in thinking I wanted. She also gave me a heads up that I would need to buy a crochet hook for undoing the buttons at the end of the night, which was something

Kirsten is amazing at what she does. She took an already beautiful dress and made it breathtaking. She is patient and very accommodating. Did I mention she was very affordable, and she is super nice and very down to earth. She made the entire process stress free and made me comfortable from the very first appointment. Kirsten was the absolute best! She is extremely professional, friendly and goes above and beyond to truly understand what you want. She even helps guide you in the right direction when you are unsure of what will look good or feel comfortable. She made a dress that was many sizes to big on me fit perfectly, and even took my last minute additional crazy requests. I would highly recommend Kirsten and her team to any Bride look for alterations! I am still in awe of how perfect my dress was and will forever be grateful!

The Original Sewing Room saved my life! After a big-chain dress store cancelled my alterations appointment, I was left with less than a week to get my bridesmaid dress altered. I reached out to TOSR and they replied quickly and she was able to see me the next day and have my dress ready with two days to spare! Very professional, kind, affordable, and she did a great job. I absolutely adored my experience at The Original Sewing room! I used them for my bridal dress alterations for my October 2020 Wedding. She was so flexible with my schedule (I work in a hospital and was going crazy with all the COVID crisis) and managed to get me in with plenty of time to spare for my wedding. I had custom sleeves done and basic alterations for the fitting. The work was beautiful and she did it in a very timley fashion. I have nothing bad to say, I would 100% recommend this team to anyone looking for dress alterations. (Will attempt to post a picture soon)

I can’t say enough good things about Kirsten and her work. She and I took my original dress and completely redesigned it. She took a cape and turned it into sleeves, added lace to the back and buttons all the way down a big satin skirt. She took what I had in my head, executed it perfectly, and went above and beyond with her own additions. She is so talented, aside from the intricate redesign, my wedding dress fit perfectly and was the perfect length. The redesign we did included extensive, delicate bead work that could have easily been messed up. It took a lot of talent to make my dress come

Words cannot express how happy I am that Kirsten was able to do my wedding dress alterations. She did an incredible job and was a joy to work with. I truly appreciate the time she put into making sure that my dress fit perfectly. She made alterations from top to bottom to make sure it did just that. The length was perfect. She sewed bra cups in for extra support. She added a custom bustle that was perfect and practically invisible. Overall, I am still in awe of my dress. My experience was great and so was my mom's, sister's, and mother-in-law's. Kirsten, thank you, thank you, thank you.
