Claiborne & Churchill is a small, premium family-owned winery in the Edna Valley of San Luis Obispo, founded in 1983 by Claiborne (Clay) Thompson and Fredericka Churchill Thompson. Former teachers at the University of Michigan, the couple left the "Groves of Academe" for the vineyards of California in 1981 in order to begin a new life in the wine industry.

As prolific wine enthusiasts and growers, this was one of the best wine-tasting experiences we’ve had. Kate mixed a deep knowledge of the wines with a warmth and generosity that is increasingly rare in the industry. The white wines were a particular highlight: mind blowing Gewurtztraminer, balanced Chardonnays, and truly dry Reislings.

This was my first time wine tasting and it was a blast. Debbie really went out of her way to make us feel comfortable and relaxed. She was patient with us and answered all of our questions regarding the wine making process, flavors, palette, even down to how to drink it to get the full taste.
I went for a tasting and left with 4 bottles. It was delicious and I cant wait to come back again.

I like drinking white wine and it’s hard to find some in this area. They did have a couple and the staff was super friendly. We were there for quite a while. If you are looking for one with a view, this may not be it. There are several others in the area that have a good view but I did see several folks just hanging out with friends and family.
