Helmut began working with Volvo Penta engines at his parent's marina in Germany by the time he was 13 years old. His love for boating grew with every day and Volvo Penta engines became his passion! Once he graduated, he went through Germany's intense trade program and became a master technician for Mercedes.
Our workshop is equipped with advanced diagnostics systems, the full range of special tools and the very latest service information. Maintenance and repairs are carried out by certified technicians, who are continuously trained in the latest Volvo Penta technology and repair methods, using only Genuine Volvo Penta Parts.

Helmuts Marine saved my summer plans! - in this post COVID world, parts are hard to come by. These guys are way above and beyond the rest. I needed a Volvo Penta obsolete part and Dan went out of his way to help me get them. I called 17 other dealers Volvo themselves recommended for finding these parts and Dan was the only one who thought to try Europe. Can’t thank them enough. Honestly, I have to say that Helmut and Dan are exceptional people that go out of their way to help people out. Boating for the most part should be called repairing as that is where you end up spending most of your time. I have had several complex issues and since COVID, my local guy is too busy to help. When I called Helmut, he spent quality time with me and helped me trouble shoot my problem. Who does that these days? With Dan and ordering parts, it was so enjoyable. My husband first started buying parts through Helmut’s Marine Service’s parts department last year while working on our boat with a D6 engine in it. They always seemed to have the part in stock and their parts staff was patient helping him look up what he needed.

This is as good as it gets. Went in for a raw water pump for my Volvo Penta 5.0 and these guys blew me away. New to this boat and asked a ton of questions on maintenance, they provided some super helpful info, printed out several docs to help me, and showed me a motor in the shop to make sure I knew what to look for. If you have a Volvo Penta, this is the place to go for parts and service. The passion and knowledge are superb and the prices were on par or lower than what I was quoted elsewhere. One of those times you walk away knowing you've found the place you want to do business with.

Every client has been so happy to have worked with them. They are by FAR the most knowledgable Volvo experts in California, and it's not just their job, it's their life. The definition of a family business, they take every client's needs personally. Jumping to prioritize urgent jobs while keeping a punctual and communicative schedule is so important in a service team.

Helmut's is a fantastic organization. Its is well run and they always put the customer first. I cannot say enough about how Nadine took control of my project and jumped through numerous hurdles to get it done. She is fantastic and is a key reason why Helmuts is so successful. Larry and Jarred are probably the best skilled marine technicians in the Bay Area and beyond. I was extremely fortunate to have a such a talented team of professionals to work on the Sea Wolf. Recently came to Helmut's for a outdrive service and couldn't have better things to say about this company. The technical depth and knowledge they have to make sure you are leaving with the boat in a good place is amazing. Nadine and Sara are wonderful to work as they over communicated throughout the process. Larry is a wealth of knowledge who points out other items you should be thinking of and the speed in which they executed on getting me back on the water was huge. Happy I have found my new shop and couldn't imagine taking the boat anywhere else.

Linda was amazing. I emailed in requesting parts diagrams etc. she was able to locate all of the updated part numbers for my Volvo penta 270. All parts were in stock. I went in on my lunch and all the parts were pulled and ready to go. Highly recommend Helmut's. Knowledgeable and friendly staff. Thank you again!!!!

I have what must now be considered an "Antique" Volvo Diesel Engine an MD-3B made in 1973. I had a parts book, but no technical manual, and I wanted to buy new parts to service my engine.
Daniel gave me access to a full copy of the Shop Manual via drop box, lickety split.
They had the service parts I needed in stock !
They answered my emails !! They answered my phone calls !
They had my parts waiting in a nice little box !
Listen folks.. if you are working on your own sailboat in the Bay Area.. try emailing a rigger or a sailmaker.. go ahead pick one out of the hat

I have an old 28 year old day cruiser that I take my kids out in. I bring it to Helmut's Marine yearly for service in February before the rush so I know they have the time to give it a full look over. I am always pleased that when I put it in the water it works. When my husband and I decided to buy a houseboat, we sat down and talked with Helmut about what we should get as far as the engine's go.
