The San Francisco Community Health Center began has had a long journey since it's founding in in 1987. We grew out of the response of the 1980s AIDS crisis, specifically supporting the impact of the epidemic on the Asian and Pacific Islander community. In 1996 we launched as API Wellness and since then we have worked hard to remain rooted in API communities while welcoming anyone who needs our services.
In 2015 we became recognized as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) which allowed us to greatly increase our clinical capacity and serve much more of our community. We became San Francisco Community Health Center in 2018 to fully encompass all of programs and services we offer and reflect the entirety of who we serve.

Services
We are proud to have a dedicated and passionate group of individuals serving on our Board of Directors. Ranging from doctors to public health policy experts to finance professionals to consumers of our services each member devotes their time freely, guiding SFCHC's policy and responding to the community's needs.
This is our key principal in guiding our care at our federally qualified health center in San Francisco. With a foundation in the Tenderloin and a growing clinic in the Castro district, we offer primary care that is centered around your needs. Our able medical providers work for the community, come from the community and can serve all who come in our doors.
At San Francisco Community Health Center, we believe oral health is attainable by all, regardless of race, color, sexuality, gender, or economic status. We focus on whole patient wellness, education and quality affordable dental care. We understand many of our patients have a long history of substance abuse and dental neglect or trauma and feel a certain amount of shame about the state of their oral health.
Here at San Francisco Community Health Center we believe in providing respectful and culturally humbling care that supports your health goals. We provide a trans/GNC (Gender Non-Conforming) affirming environment that encourages patients to develop long lasting relationships with our healthcare providers.
