Services
Calistoga's Bear Flag Inn bed and breakfast sits on land that offers a unique bit of California history. The inn was once the John Cyrus Ranch established in the 1860's. John married Lovina Graves, a Donner Party survivor, and settled down to raise his family here. Peter Storm was a long-term guest at the Cyrus home.
For the complete story, just ask us and we'll fill you in upon your visit!. Featuring a vibrant stained-glass window of his bear flag design, the Peter Storm room offers a mission-style bed, armoire, and a comfortable chair and ottoman. The private bath has a claw foot bathtub and shower. Gaze out the windows to views of vineyards, a walnut grove, and the Palisades Mountains.
Mornings at the Bear Flag Inn are filled with the delightful aromas of fresh ground coffee, baked goods, and a delicious homemade hot entree. Served in our light-filled and inviting breakfast room, our hearty breakfasts will prepare you for a busy day in the wine country - or a relaxing day by our pool!
Calistoga and the Napa Valley wine country offer many wonderful things to do and see. Below are some terrific attractions located close to the inn. During your visit, we'd be happy to recommend additional activities that best fit your interests and budget. This is an on-demand service. Guests simply dial the number (963-4229) and say where they need to be picked up and where they need to be dropped off within the service area.
Take Highway 101 north to Highway 37 east. North on Highway 29 through the towns of Napa and St. Helena. When you reach the blinking light at the entrance to Calistoga, continue north on Highway 128, which turns into Foothill Blvd. Pass Petrified Forest Road on your left. Bear Flag Inn is a little further up on the left.

Marge and Dennis were such great hosts. There are chickens and cats all over the property, and breakfast was always prompt and fresh with local eggs and fresh made everything. Our room was perfect for a wine tasting getaway and I would recommend anyone exploring a bed and breakfast stay to come here

Marjorie and Denise were wonderful hosts. The room was very comfortable. We enjoyed watching the chickens and cats roam the yard and meeting their cute Labrador. The breakfasts were really very good and plentiful. The location is great and the vine shuttle picks up very promptly and takes you into Calistoga

What a jewel! Don't miss this hidden treasure in Calistoga! I was staying with my wife mid September for 4 nights. We live in the central coast area, so the drive was not that long. The place is offset from the street and has it's own little vineyard in front. A little farm, 4 acres, with free running chickens and cats. They also have two lovely dogs. The appeal is of an historic Victorian style house. We stayed upstairs. Dennis and Marjorie are wonderful hosts. Great breakfast in the morning in the Greenhouse like room. Every morning they made something different. Happy hour starts at 4:30pm.

Dennis and Marge made my first time in Napa Valley one to remember. Their home is gorgeous and they really do an amazing job as hosts. We got to know them well during the happy hour where we enjoyed several glasses of complimentary wine made from grapes grown on the property. Breakfast was delightful and delicious and the other guests were very friendly. We got to enjoy as much interaction as we wanted, though privacy was very easy by going to our room or spending time poolside. This was my first experience at a B&B and has definitely set a high standard for the future!

Dennis and Marge were incredible hosts. We had a short, but wonderful stay at the Bear Flag Inn. We checked in a little late, but Dennis greeted us promptly and showed us to our room. We settled in and were invited for a glass of wine. We stayed two nights and both evenings were spent enjoying delicious wine and great conversation with our gracious hosts. They accommodated earlier breakfast both mornings of our stay, both of which were delicious. Will definitely be back if we ever return to the area. Thank you so much for a fantastic experience!!

If you have kids, BEWARE. Called to make a reservation and the person who answered was extremely rude. He said if we had kids (5,7) we couldn't stay there. (You might want to note that on your website.) When I tried to clarify, he hung up on me. Thanks for the "wonderful" start to our vacation. Families, stay away from this B&B.

A bed and breakfast should be an experience, like your first time riding a bicycle. Your first kiss, even, perhaps, the first time a puppy's teeth gnawed your knuckles, bit at your ears, and dug into your head of hair. There are other firsts that come to mind; you know what I speak of, just nod and smile, giggle, blush, or force your chest out like Foghorn Leghorn and grin as much as bird beaks can grin.
The Bear Flag Inn is just as special; especially for your first time. It's historic foundation, fireplace, and caretakers are second to none. I charge you with this: if you can find

We love the Bear Flag Inn!!! We so enjoy the cocktail hour, enjoying the other guests and the wine that is made by Dennis, the owner of the inn. The rooms are all cozy and comfortable but we love staying in the cottage that is near the pool. And the breakfasts are always delicious, but we have fallen in love with the Eggs Benedict that is made with the chicken eggs from their own chickens, those eggs are to die for. We have been many times to the Bear Flag Inn and are greatly looking forward to our next visit to Calistoga and can't wait to be back to the Bear Flag Inn. Go, you won't

We had such a great experience here! Everyone here is so friendly and accommodating. We felt right at home from the moment we walked in. There was a complimentary "happy hour" with wine and snacks in the afternoon. They also cooked us a delicious breakfast in the morning. We would stay there again in a heartbeat. It was so cozy and such a comfortable night sleep! Thank you so much

Dennis and Margerie were warm and welcoming. They were also flexible about when we wanted breakfast. Full breakfasts were exceptional (eggs from their own chickens) in a lovely atrium. We stayed in the cottage - 2 rooms and a bath. Roomy, everything worked well and it was spotlessly clean --but not fancy. The afternoon wine and snacks were a nice touch. It is dog friendly and would also be a great place for kids. It is walking distance to downtown Calistoga and generally a great location. Highly recommended.

SO charming. Lovely decor, soft bed, fresh cut flowers in my room, a big beautiful claw foot tub. The owners are lovely, warm, and welcoming. The grounds is gorgeous and has a small field of grape fines. Friendly cats and dogs on the property. Very quiet. Conveniently located 1 mile outside of Calistoga. I would definitely stay here again and would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone.

Dennis greeted us with a friendly hello when we arrived, and even though we missed the happy hour he made an exception and poured us each a glass of wine.
A tree branch had fallen in the driveway and we let him know. We went out for dinner and it was gone when we returned. Not bad...
The room is clean, nicely furnished, and feels like grandma's house. Just what they were hoping for.
We fell asleep to the distant sound of someone's country hound dog barking. A reminder that Calistoga is a country town.
Breakfast was slow but delicious. I we weren't sort-of in a hurry, we wouldn

A full five stars for our stay on a hot, dry, last weekend of summer at the Bear Flag Inn!
Dennis and Marge welcomed our large, lively family as we moved in to this authentic Napa Valley farmhouse! Three generations relaxed together around the pool and in the large, sunny breakfast conservatory surrounded by grapevines and shade trees. Everything about this place is comfortable--like a visit to your grandmother's house. You can even bring the puppies--we did! Afternoon drinks and delicious, filling breakfasts of the lightest made-from-scratch waffles and egg puff casseroles elevated our stay

What an amazing place to stay!
My sister, her boyfriend, and myself stayed at the Bear Flag Inn over Thanksgiving weekend. The grounds are so pretty - vineyards and flowers. Lots of dogs, cats, and chickens running around (but no rooster to wake you up early). The rooms are cheerful and cozy. And the breakfast was incredible! My sister is a vegan and they had some steel cut oatmeal and fresh fruit waiting for her while I indulged in a delicious egg benedict.
Dennis makes his own wine and is more than happy to pour you a glass when you get there. 100% cab from 2002? Yes, please.

All of the good reviews I must agree with!
My boyfriend and I have visited this area before but have stayed elsewhere. Because we are last minute weekend getaway's we stumbled upon Dennis and Marjorie B & B by accident..serendipity.
AMAZING breakfast! Fruit all sweet! Best Eggs Benedict I have EVER had! Melt in your mouth.
Gracious host and hostess. Quaint warm atmosphere..great location close to everything yet not in the middle of town.
On their website it says "home away from home"
I could not agree more!
We can not wait to visit again.

My fiancé and I now stayed there for two nights. And on behalf of him and I we want to thank Marjorie and Dennis. Made us feel like home. It's a very comfortable place to stay, I had never had such a wonderful experience like this one before.
I must disagree with other posts about them being rude, they're the sweetest most welcoming human beings I have ver met. My fiancé and I were definitely over satisfied with this stay at the Bear Flag inn! We got to have a nice toast and shared it with the rest of the guests. Made us feel very special.
And the breakfast, oh my was it delicious

My husband and I stayed here for our first anniversary. We stayed one night, and we were 100% treated like family.
The house is full of history and the grounds are rustic and lovely. The chickens roam about happily with the cats; the dogs are sweet and friendly, but spend most of their time out of the house.
Just after we parked, I picked a perfectly ripe black fig off a tree in the front yard and ate it as we walked to the front door. The grounds are full of fruit trees - fig, persimmon, apple, and of course there are grape vines.
There's a wine and cheese session starting around 4pm

Upon arriving at the Bear Flag Inn, we enjoyed some of the home grown Cabernet Sauvignon, our "innkeepers" Dennis and Margie grow on premise and share during "happy hour" at the B&B. They have little noshes of cheese, crackers, olives, etc. to go with the wine and are incredibly social. They helped us pick out several wineries to see the next day and recommended several places to have dinner over our stay.
The room we had was a room with a private entrance on the side of the house. It was adorable, very "french-country" in its decor with a connecting bathroom
