San Francisco Boat Works

San Francisco Boatworks was founded in 1984 and has been a mainstay of the San Francisco and Bay Area boating community ever since. Local enterpreneur Michael Denman bought the facility when it was a small, struggling marine repair business alongside a tiny food operation, serving patrons who were launching their small vessels from a nearby concrete ramp.

San Francisco Boatworks is located in Central Basin, south of both the Bay Bridge and South Beach Harbor, in the slight cove next to the large commercial ship dry docks at Pier 70 (these are the largest dry docks on the bay - you can't miss them). We are located between the Mission Rock Restaurant on the north and The Ramp restaurant to the south.

Your project will be finished using cost-effective, careful procedures and the most up-to-date products available in the marketplace. Regardless of material, manufacturer or designer, our repair and finishing team is happy to take on your project. For repair and restoration of your vessel caused by running aground, a collision, water leaks or other untoward events, you'll receive the attention and expertise you deserve.

If your gel coat has suffered damage from impact, blisters or UV light, we can repair it for you. We grind, prime and then color match your gel coat before spraying it on. We wet sand it smooth, and then buff and polish to a bright finish for you.

To repair your damage, our fiberglass technicians grind away all delaminated or damaged fiberglass to sound material and then lay up precut concentric sections of fiberglass mat, roving, cofab (X mat) or cloth saturated with either polyester, vinylester or epoxy resins.If the area is cracked, crushed or delaminated, these areas have to be removed and replaced with new material and then layered with fiberglass and resin.

Our technicians are experienced in applying a large array of different products available to suit your specifications. We use all common types of wood found on yachts such as teak, mahogany, Douglas fir, cedar, oak and spruce. We will repair and restore your wooden vessel in the traditional manner.
