Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling martial art and self-defense system that focuses on ground fighting. BJJ's main concept is teaching a smaller person how to defend themselves against heavier, stronger, and bigger people. This is done by using leverage and proper technique to apply chokeholds and joint locks to stop an attacker.
Your child starts their Brazilian jiu-jitsu journey with us in this class. It's taught in a safe and controlled environment where we've structured this class from our curriculum-based teaching method to ensure they get the most out of each class. Our kid's Brazilian jiu-jitsu class for ages 4 to 6 is a great way to introduce children to the fundamentals of this martial art.

Professor Beto Vilanova is a third-degree black belt with over 20 years of training and teaching expertise in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Professor Beto was born and raised in the neighborhood of Paraisopolis, which is located in Sao Paulo, Brazil. When Professor Beto was in high school he almost ended his training to care and provide for his family when his mother fell ill.

I talked with Beto today he's the owner and head instructor. He's a local guy been here 3 years. He told me he can accept and start training kids at 3yo. No age limit if you can handle it. Folks this man is serious. He's had 19 years of training, 3rd degree black belt, this isn't a daycare. Good prices, polite and knowledgeable staff. Being a Military family we have attended four different BJJ academies and visited several others. Previously it was something that we insisted on the children doing just to get them out of the house and do something physical. This time we did not insist, but they decided to train after watching Professor Beto teach several youth classes. He really keeps them engaged while teaching them this awesome martial art.

This place is a wonderful place to learn. The instructors are incredible, patient and very knowledgeable. The staff is easy to work with and the facility is top notch. I highly recommend trying out the free lesson for both kids and adults. Everyone gets a lot of exercise and a great self defense skill.

My husband and I decided to try brazilian jiu-jitsu after watching many tournaments/tutorials online. While we have no other gyms with which to compare Vilanova, we feel fortunate for having chosen this gym. Professor Vilanova is very knowledgeable as are his coaches. The other students at the gym are very friendly and welcoming of newcomers. We can't imagine a better environment in which to train something as demanding and cool as brazilian jiu-jitsu. We highly recommend Vilanova to those adventurous enough to give it a try.

Academies like this one are few and far between. Outside of Los Angeles or Río de Janeiro you will be hard pressed to find a school where every class is thought by a black belt. Why go all the way to Brazil to discover the apex of Jiujitsu when it is available right here in Ventura County? Professor Beto is one of the nicest and most effective Jiujitsu teachers I have had the pleasure of meeting and it is clear that his excellence is contagious.
