Services
I grew up in San Jose and have lived in the Bay Area my whole life. My passion for dentistry began in high school when I had braces. I enjoyed watching the assistants who worked on my teeth and helped me achieve the perfect smile. I earned my AA in dental assisting from San Jose Community College and have since worked over 20 years in the dental field.
I absolutely love my job! For me, everyday at "work" is a gift to be a part of a person's journey to transform their smile and witness its life-changing effects. There's so much I could say about my passion for orthodontics, but one aspect that I truly love are the relationships that I develop with my patients during the course of their orthodontic journey.
Dr. Gary Lau is proud to be part of the annual San Carlos Treasure Hunters event. San Carlos Treasure Hunters is a fast-paced treasure hunt through the City of Good Living. Once accepted, teams will study a new San Carlos history book, San Carlos Parks, the online video and other materials in order to make their way to ten secret clue stations.
Every year, we have a Super Teacher Contest to recognize outstanding teachers in our local schools. The contest is open to all of our patients and their friends. We want to celebrate teachers, the passionate and hardworking members of our community, who often have the greatest impact on our children's education and future.
The American Association for Orthodontics recommends that children should start getting orthodontic attention from the age of seven. This is the stage when children would be experiencing healthy growth of jawbone and their milk teeth would be getting replaced by permanent teeth. If they have any sort of malocclusion, it would be the perfect time to get it treated.

Exceptional! Dr. Lau and all of his team are very customer care focused and attentive. His process is understandable, thorough, automatic and thoughtful. Before you begin treatment, he understands your desires and goals, then will go over what he can do to achieve that and how the process goes. His equipment is all state of the art and his work is excellent. I am very satisfied with my results. I always felt taken care of when I call, come in or have questions. My kids are officially done with all their orthodontic treatments and have beautifully straight teeth, thanks to Dr Lau and staff, who are top-notch and awesome! I look back very fondly at the many years of orthodontic visits, because during every visit, we felt very welcomed (always with warm smiles and friendly greetings) and sincerely cared for and the whole team is just so authentically kind and good at what they do. Not too long ago, I found out my son would be needing braces through his dentist. After having consultations with several orthodontists, I decided to go with Dr. Lau. And I am SO glad I did! Not only is Dr. Lau super professional and skilled, he is also very friendly, courteous, and patient. Dr. Lau took the time to explain the entire procedure to me and answered any questions that I had. I never felt pressured into starting treatment after our initial visit.

This is a long overdue review for Dr. Lau and his fabulous team. My wife Xing was a patient with Dr Lau for almost 2 years. She is very satisfied with the result. Every time we visited, Dr Lau and the team explained in details about the progress. The automatic appointment reminder and check-in system is very convenient and thoughtful.
Throughout the entire process, Dr Lau kept very clear communication with our dentist Eddy on coordinating the Invisalign adjustment toward making space for the tooth implant.

I have had a great experience at San Carlos Orthodontics. Their customer care is excellent. Dr. Lau and his staff are friendly and knowledgeable and clearly care about their customers. I am so excited I just started inbraces ortho treatment (braces behind the teeth). Dr. Lau and his staff are all so friendly and professional. They make you feel welcome and do a great job. I can't recommend them enough! This is the perfect time while we are all wearing masks to get ortho work. My husband is doing Invisalign with Dr. Lau and is really enjoying the process too.

Dr. Lau is an excellent orthodontist. He has been treating three of us (two kids and 1 adult) and we've all seen dramatic improvements. Dr. Lau and his team are exemplars for excellent customer service and patient care. From the moment you are greeted by the front desk team to the caring bedside manner of the back office staff and Dr. Lau himself, you are in good hands. My child is somewhat of a worry wort and they do a great job minimizing her anxiety. I reached out to the office one late afternoon to get a doctors note for the next morning, they made it a point to get this to me before day's end. Five star service in my opinion!

I can't say enough nice things about this office! Everyone is great. Dr. Lau and his staff take there time and make you feel super comfortable. From the second you walk through the door you are always greeted and made welcome. Scheduling appointments was easy and convenient with my daughters school schedule. I just finished my Invisalign treatment with Dr. Lau. I had an excellent experience. Nothing to complain about whatsoever. His staff was extremely friendly, Dr. Lau always took the time to answer my questions and explain the next step in the treatment, and Ann took care of all of the billing stuff promptly and diligently. My teeth look great, I am very happy with how it turned out. And the time it took was shorter than what Dr. Lau originally said, so that was a bonus. Under promise over deliver!

I had a couple teeth that needed to be maneuvered to prevent gum loss, and it worked out really well. If you're looking for your kids, this is the place. If you're looking for yourself, it's also the place.

I just had my old retainer replaced by Dr. Lau at San Carlos Orthodontics and the experience could not have been better. My new retainers fit perfectly and it was due to Dr. Lau's attention to detail. I originally had a wire on my top teeth removed by a different office. Dr. Lau noticed there was some residual glue left over and removed it before scanning my teeth for my retainer. He constantly made sure I was comfortable and addressed any questions or concerns

Dr. Lau is a caring, highly competent orthodontist. His staff is organized and welcoming. He goes above and beyond his work and cares for the community. At my son's recent visit, I told him I was helping organize a collection of school supplies for the children displaced by the recent Camp Fires. He straight away offered to donate some supplies he had. He came out of the back with an overflowing box of markers and crayons. Then he wheeled them to our car and helped load them up. Thank you Dr. Lau for your compassion.
