Founded by Li Lin, PhD, LAc in 2012, Southern Village Acupuncture and Herbology is conveniently located in Southern Village, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Our patients come to us from Chapel Hill, the surrounding communities and from other states. Our licensed acupuncturists are Li Lin, PhD, LAc and Susanna Lea, MS, LAc.
Dr. Lin has been trained in both modern pharmaceutical sciences and traditional Chinese medicine. We have treated many different conditions, from those as simple as the common cold to some so complex that allopathic medicine has difficulty diagnosing or treating them. Susanna Lea is a licensed practitioner of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine in North Carolina. She is nationally certified in Acupuncture and Chinese Herbology. Susanna studied Classical Chinese Medicine at Daoist Traditions College of Chinese Medical Arts in Asheville, NC, under Jeffrey Yuen, and received her master's degree in Classical Chinese Medicine.
Q: I have multiple issues including migraines, PMS, IBS, and plantar fasciitis. Can these be addressed all at once or do you concentrate on one area at a time? A: At your first visit, we will review the chief complaint(s) in detail and will also do a whole-person evaluation, which is used to help in the diagnosis.

I’ve been seeing Susanne Lea the Acupuncturist for a year And she’s truly phenomenal. I suffer from IBS and Gastrointestinal problems and she has truly made a difference in my health with the acupuncture treatments. As a massage therapist, I love that Acupuncture treatment activates the body’s self-healing mechanisms.
Li Lin is so knowledgeable and has the ability to always assess my problem(s) and treat it appropriately. She has been able to stop my pain cycle when nothing else would. She also can provide herbs to help when needed. Last fall I had my first allergic reaction to poison ivy. My primary care gave me a shot and cream to treat it but nothing worked. After 4 days of itch and pain, she resolved it within minutes. I didn’t even know she could treat that. I highly recommend her to my clients,

I respect Dr. Lin. She has years of training: a PhD from UNC, five years of training of Chinese medicine in China, and a master in acupuncture. I was chronically ill with respiratory infections... Many years. With acupuncture and Chinese herbs, and mostly her insight, I no longer have sinus problems, I'm breathing better, and the list goes on. She has been treating my digestive system and alleviating distress of irritable bowel syndrome. She is working to clear my liver. My son could hardly move without extreme pain but after having treatment with Susanna he is back to being a golf caddy! I saw her when I threw my back out and her kindness and treatment were amazing. Neck, shoulder, shoulder blade, carpal tunnel, numb fingers
A year ago I started to feel everyday pain on my right side of my shoulder blade then it moved down to my shoulder which continued to move down my arm which caused pain in my wrist which led to numbness and tingling in my fingers (thumb, index, middle finger). As days went by the tingling and numbness in my finger worsened. I would wake up in the middle of the night and shake my hand and massage my wrist to feel relieve but of course that did not work. I started taking ibuprofen just to sleep during the night which it did help for awhile

I first went to see Susanna Lea about 6 months ago for a chronic cough that I have had ever since I had pneumonia two years ago. Susanna was the first practioner who I felt truly listened to me and took the time to really break down what is going on with my body. I have used acupuncture for the past 16 years from the west coast and now from NC. Dr Lin is helping me maintain my life as an 84 yr old! Her office is spacious and comfortable. This is a great clinic. The clinic is very different from the community clinics that I am used to (more of a Western Medicine environment) but, the doctor is exceptional and, her treatments are incredibly effective. She is one of the best acupuncturists that I have been to and, in my opinion, the best in NC. I highly recommend this clinic to both those who are familiar with the practice, as well as those who are looking to try it for the first time.

Dr. Lin has been treating me for chronic fatigue for over a year. The treatments have changed my life. With regular treatments, I have energy and my life back! I have had a wonderful experience with SVA & H. I was in a very bad vehicle accident October 2014. It was a 5 car pileup where a big truck decided to run over me and 3 other vehicles. Just after the accident I felt paralyzed on my entire left side, but the feeling went away after a few minutes and then the majority of the pain was in the area of my left shoulder, arm and neck.
Nothing was broken but muscles and ligaments were badly damaged, torn, bruised and separated because of the impact. After a 6 1/2 hours of surgery the doctor's had put me back together.
