October is Arts Month in the City of Tacoma. As a non-profit organization, the TYSA is always seeking opportunity for support. This can be in a variety of forms: donations, volunteering, joining us as an audience member or connecting us with your business for possible sponsorships. Please join our musical family by sharing your talents.

A wonderful opportunity awaits youth aged 6-21 as they join the Tacoma Youth Symphony Association. Each August youth play a classical piece of their choice for our conductors. Qualified students are placed in one or more of our 8 performing groups according to their ability. It is a fun learning experience for the students to demonstrate their musical growth.

If you are a young musician or parent of one and are considering joining TYSA, I hope this review helps you make an informed decision.
I was a member of TYSA orchestras for five years, right through high school graduation. I stuck around for a few reasons, it looks good on a college app, etc., but I can hardly say it was a highlight of my youth.
Only consider joining if you are serious about a future career in music. They take music with a grave seriousness and seem to have a tacit expectation that all their members end up in music conservatories. They demand loyalty and have disdain for competing

The Tacoma Youth Symohony was by far the best group I've ever been a part of, and honestly shaped me into who I am today. By far the best youth group on the west coast, and I can say that confidently. They have the nicest staff you've ever met, and I can assure that it's the best music experience a young person can have.
