In thinking about what it means to own a family winery and farm, designated as a Century Farm in 2018 by the NY Agricultural Society, Fred and Jennifer say: "Perhaps the best part is the appreciation that we can-in building and creating new traditions on this century farm-continue to be stewards of the family land, its business, and our community in ways that leave each in a little better condition than we found it."
Fred is a third-generation Cornellian who spent over 30 years managing and consulting for international food companies before returning to the family farm in retirement. He met his wife, Jennifer, at the Cornell Johnson School of Business. Jennifer, an avid gardener, has planted perennial, fruit, and herb gardens around the farmhouse.

Services
An estate or farm winery uses grapes grown from its own adjacent vineyards. The entire vinification process, including the crushing, pressing, fermentation, aging, and bottling, occurs on site. Grapes have been grown at Johnson Estate for well over a century. All of the European and American grapes used to make our estate wines are grown within 3000 feet of the winery.
The Johnson family farm consists of over 300 acres of land bisected by Freelings Creek, which drains into nearby Lake Erie. The care given to the farm and its natural resources, including its meadows, creeks, and woodlands, reflects our family's desire to be good stewards of the land for future generations.
Chardonnay is the most fashionable white wine variety in the world. A fairly vigorous variety, Johnson Estate planted its first Chardonnay in 2013 and hand-picked the first harvest from the young vines in 2016. It forms a small, relatively compact, winged-cylindrical cluster of small berries, not as densely closed as that of Pinot Noir.
When a tasting room guest asks for recommendations in our area, we share a few of our favorite places. An association of 23 wineries on a 50-mile stretch between Silver Creek, NY and the town of Harborcreek, PA. A small batch artisan cheesemaking company & an artisan cheese shop in Chautauqua County that partners with Johnson Estate for special events.

We have stopped before and always been treated respectfully and customer service was always great. Until today, no offer to show or taste until my husband in looking around wandered where a woman thought he should not be. Then she was quick to tell him he shouldn't be there. He is hearing challenged so she had to say it several times and louder every time. We won't be back. If you have to make a mistake to get someone's attention you don't need to spend your money there.

Johnson Estate Winery = WOW!
If you’re looking for an experience of a lifetime, this one is a must!
For our anniversary, we emailed them ahead of time. Gave them a budget and a date/time and they coordinated a walk through the vineyard with the owner, a charcuterie board lunch by the estate pond, grape picking, and included 2 bottles of wine for us based on our favorite type.
I felt like I was on the bachelorette having a secluded charcuterie board in the middle of a beautiful winery lol!

We really loved our time visiting Johnson Estate Winery. The staff is very knowledgeable without being pushy. They try to help you find a wine you will like and enjoy based on your preferences. Safety seems to be at the foremost of all they do - a large sign on the front door informs you that their entire staff has been vaccinated, and they spaced us out around the bar for us to enjoy our wine sampling without encroaching on other guests.

What an amazing time with the best staff ever!!! Joanna, Mary & Matt are by far the best servers I have ever encountered! Seriously give them a raise because they are doing a hell of a job! The atmosphere was amazing, even the stranger customers were pretty cool. My family and I take this trip every year and this year we found the COOLEST winery EVER! We shall return and I hope to see the A-Team. Just in case you don't know, it's Joanna, Mary & Matt!

This is one of my favorite stops along the Erie wine trail! We have been here on several occasions over the past three years and several of their staff members have been there over that length of time as well. The woman who served us our pairing is always fun and jokes around with us. The womam who tended to us at the tasting bar knew everything about each of the wines and what they pair best with. She was so informative and also asked for feedback regarding the event, valuing it.

This is one of my favorite wineries to stop by when I'm in the area. The sweeter wines are really what is best here. The grounds are beautiful. Over the years, I have tried almost all of their wines. On my last visit this summer, I only ordered a set of 3 tastings and the girl poured a slightly generous pour and the older lady, who I think is the owner or at least a long- time manager, scolded her and said, "people don't realize how much they're drinking when it is hot." I don't like how she treated that employee (very rude) and her attitude was condescending to us

Wine was good. Was not a chill experience for labor day weekend. People seemed stressed and everything felt rushed. As other reviewers noted, overwhelming when large groups come in. Worth a visit, for sure. If crowds are not your gig, try another spot and stop by on a weekday/ non-holiday weekend. Also, note that you are limited 6 taste stones per day.
Cheers
