One of the things Dr. Monroe Benaim often tells his team is to "put on the Ritz, " which means he wants every patient that walks in to feel cared for and important.Dr. Benaim, of Jupiter, FL, has more than 25 years of experience serving Palm Beach County's eye care needs. Diabetic retinopathy, which impacts the blood vessels in the retina, is the most common cause of vision loss among people with diabetes. It's also the leading cause of vision impairment and blindness among working-age adults, according to the National Eye Institute. There are usually no symptoms in the early stages of diabetic retinopathy, so your vision may not be affected until the disease becomes severe.
Dry eye is a condition that causes patients to feel like there is a continuous irritation in their eyes. This discomfort is caused by the eye's inability to produce the right type of tears or tear film. The eye requires a tear film to help protect the eye and to produce tears. Tear film is made up of three layers: an inner mucus layer, a middle watery layer, and an oily exterior layer.
Fuchs' dystrophy is a slowly progressing disease that affects the cornea. It occurs when the cells in the endothelium (the inner most layer of the cornea) start to deteriorate. This causes fluid to build up, making the cornea swell and your vision become hazy. Women are more likely to have Fuchs' dystrophy than men, and a family history of the disease increases your risk of developing it, according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Eye exams can help you detect problems at their earliest - and most treatable - stage. Benaim Eye provides full-service eye care to its patients, starting with a comprehensive eye examination. Dr. Monroe Benaim, our local ophthalmologist, has been practicing for more than 25 years and he can help determine whether you need glasses or contact lenses, as well as check the overall health of your eyes.

My sister was diagnosed with "elevated ocular pressure" by a mall optometrist and was advised to see an ophthalmologist ASAP. Dr. Benaim's office very kindly made a new patient appointment for her within 48 hours of her phone call and, after a series of tests, concluded that she did have angle closure glaucoma and needed a laser procedure on both eyes to bring the pressure down. We found his staff friendly and professional and Dr. Benaim was thorough and accommodating. I highly recommend Dr. Benaim!
