Lighting is one of the most important elements of good design. Yet many homes are either under-lit, or resemble an airport landing runway. The right lighting can make or break any design. Two major components to good lighting are it's form and it's function. Most of us tend to focus on the form aspect of lighting choosing fixtures for their appearance while not taking into consideration how they are to be used.
Use Multiple Layers of Light. This adds dimension to your room as well as giving you maximum flexibility with your lighting. Using a single chandelier in a dining room can become a glare-bomb when you have to use it at full intensity in order to see the food on the table or the faces of your guests.
One area of landscaping that is often overlooked is illumination. We are accustomed to viewing our yards during the day, but what happens at night is they virtually disappear. Adding well placed landscape lighting to your yard will expand your living spaces, offer safety and a greater sense of security, allowing you to see what's going on in your yard at night.
A professional lighting designer will always consider both the color temperature as well as the color rendering of any light source. Wonderful possibilities emerge when you keep lighting in balance with people, art and architecture. After implementing a carefully designed lighting plan you will be amazed at the transformation of your space.
We consulted with Malia to assist us with our lighting needs as we began the process of remodeling our recently purchased home in Ken Caryl. Initially our lighting plan consisted of primarily recessed lighting, which we ultimately learned would not give us the functionality and warmth we were looking for in our new home.

Love her! We had our basement lighting updated because it was like a dark dungeon with some really terrible existing track lights. She helped us choose and add several awesome flush mounts that have totally transformed the basement. We also had her help us update our kitchen lighting during our kitchen remodel. The combination of hanging fixtures and recessed lights has made the kitchen work so much better. Very knowledgeable and passionate about what she does.
