I think this is an awesome place to train, build discipline, self confidence, respect. My daughter started at the end of November. She balked about making her try it. She's still going and doing great! Master Chewning and his training team are the Best! I encourage you to try them. My son has enjoyed getting fit and exercising without complaint.
He has so much fun and has grown emotionally throughout this journey. They have great Birthday celebrations here and it's an excellent way to entertain and wear out a bunch of boys that are going to sleepover at your home. It's hard to really put into words what this place has meant to my nephew and my family.

Since 1993, Brian Chewning's TaeKwonDo Academy has provided martial arts training to its members, helping them get and stay fit, active, confident and healthy. We are a christian-based martial arts school that focuses on teaching traditional TaeKwonDo and Self Defense. Master Chewning has been training in martial arts for 30 years. He has been in business in Lexington since 1993. He takes pride in developing character and lifeskills in students that will enable them to overcome life's obstacles with commitment, dedication and perseverance. This is what he considers a true martial artist.
Our school is based on the principle of honor, respect, courtesy, accountability and responsibility. We are not a win at all cost school. We believe that mentality causes people to lose their honor, integrity and character. Winning once by any means necessary can cause a life time of pain. We also do not believe people are entitled to anything except an opportunity to excel at life.

Master Chewning and his team of instructors have really challenged our daughters in their martial arts journey. We came to Get RAW from another dojang in Lexington in January 2020 and haven't regretted that decision even through pandemic induced alterations. The staff and students welcomed our girls from day one and were reciprocal with belt rank. This is a very family-oriented atmosphere and I write this review without hesitation as a recommendation for anyone considering this for their own martial arts journey.

Don't look anywhere else. You will find more than amazing Martial Arts instruction here. You will find true mentors for your children and entire family in Master Chewning and his incredible staff. You will find an extended family full of support and encouragement to help you and/or your child reach all goals in Martial Arts and life. This is a Christian-centered, life-skill based environment. I am so blessed to have my children attend here that I have joined myself. Hope to you see there soon!

Our son is so happy to be part of this group! We have moved 3 times which necessitated finding a different TKD studio each time. We want him to learn discipline, life skills, and accountability through TKD; we need it to be more than kicking and punching. I can not tell you what it means to our family to have found that at Chewning's. We are doing the best we can to raise the best kid we can and bringing him here is helping accomplish that goal.

Love this school. It is more than just martial arts, it’s a family. I went back to taekwondo in 2015 after having not done it in over 20 years. Master and Mrs Chewning welcomed me and made me feel welcome. I’m introverted at first and other students made me feel comfortable and welcomed to the school. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else and am thankful I took that step to get back into training.

Four years ago, I brought in my 10 yr old daughter who was, at the time, struggling with low muscle tone (strength) and self-esteem. Fast forward four years. She is now a 2nd degree level 1 black belt who smashes wood. 😂 Her confidence has soared. Her brother and sister have now joined, the latter going on to earn her black belt as well. This place is phenomenal for teaching. But my heart was captured by what else goes on that goes much deeper than belt colors or medals. She has developed character. A servants heart. A desire to help the new kids. To correct kindly. To model patiently. To not

Words cannot describe what Master Chewning and his academy mean for my family. We were introduced by a classmate's birthday party and have been "hooked' ever since. My kids are getting life lessons, not just physical activity and self defense classes. By listening to Brian speak to his students, we as parents are reminded of the life lessons as well. I highly recommend at least spending 6 weeks in class to see if it is a good fit for you and your family. I had no idea we would love it as much as we do!
