Since 1993, we have been running quality camps that take kids of all ages to some of the most beautiful wilderness areas in the DC area. For over 40 years, we have been expanding the horizons of the sport, and helping paddlers of every skill level and of every age to build their confidence and ability.

Following on our successful 2020 season, we are currently finalizing plans for 2021 summer camp. We expect registration for Summer 2021 to be open very soon! We're keeping returning families up to date via regular emails from [email protected], and - of course - we'll be updating our social media & this site regularly.
Services
Our mission is to get people of all ages outdoors, providing an educational and challenging environment that promotes personal growth, group cooperation and leadership skill through outdoor activities. For nearly 20 years, Calleva has built a reputation for excellence and innovation in outdoor education and outdoor adventure programming.
Remembering where we have been is important of understanding who we are and where we are going. 2020 will mark our 27th anniversary, and we can honestly say that this journey has been full of surprises and adventures! Nick, Alex & Matt Markoff founded Calleva in 1993 as a small summer camp. Today, Calleva is known as an innovator in outdoor education, with 100+ school and community partners in the DC metropolitan area.
Calleva believes that powerful learning experiences should occur both inside and outside the classroom. Since 1996, we've been creating and facilitating quality trips that empower individuals and develop group cohesion.

We now work with over 150 schools, scout troops, and corporate groups who have seen first-hand the benefits that experiential education has towards individual character development as well as the formation of positive group culture.
After a long day in front of a computer; learn, connect, and bond with our horse as you develop skills and self confidence in our Saddle Club! After a long day at school, we are excited to offer a variety of options to meet your adventuring needs. Get ready for some fun Calleva adventures! Land Sampler @ Carderock (Second 3 weeks) is based at one of our favorite spots along the C&O.
Calleva's newest spring and fall program for our youngest nature explorers combines 'fun on the farm' with the 'Forest School' philosophy. Originating in Scandinavia in the 1950s, The Forest School movement has become popular across Europe and the US over the past few years. It shares many of the founding beliefs of Calleva.

I've lived in nearby Frederick for over 7 years and had no idea this place was here. I came across it as the endpoint for Ride Allegany (in support of Operation Second Chance). This place is just way cool, and the pizza at the Farm Cafe was fantastic. Very peaceful. We'll be back for sure. I also want to check out the Markoff's Haunted Forest, too.

The Perilous Pizza setup is great - a good alternative for those who don't want to do the Haunted Tour. Tables are spaced out all over the field near the zip line. Order at the kitchen and they bring food out to your table. About half a dozen pizza choices, salad, and bread sticks on the menu. Pizza prices are really high (~$25 for 6 slices), but you don't pay to get in. Zipline rides are $15. Decent beer and wine selection. Mini campfires at each table for making s'mores. Big bonfire in the evenings.

I am a huge fan of Calleva. I have been involved in many school outdoor trips, and this organization is simply the best. They provide several talented leaders who make meaningful connections with the kids and push them to get out of their comfort zones. The site is constantly improving their offerings. Can't wait to go back next year.

Avoid at all costs I don't know why this place is not shut down. They never clean the tents the rain covers are always wet the food is awful and the activities are dangerous and half the time life threatening. Also there are wolf spiders everywhere

This place was awesome. I came here for staff retreat and it was quite a retreat alright.

All those physically and mentally challenging obstacles. Their staff is so awesome and friendly. Let's just say, they don't give up on you. I would come back with big group of friends to do these exercises to build our friendship next time.

This is my kid's second home. They offer team building programs, after school programs, summer camps, the famous Markoff Haunted Forrest, the equestrian program, and more.

My kids have been involved in the equestrian program for a few years, taking lessons, leasing, building their work ethic and learning some great life skills.

Great, caring people, great programs, love this place.
