Early Learning Matters
Early Learning Matters (ELM) is a dedicated Preschool and Kindergarten committed to helping all children develop thinking and personal leadership skills. We invite you to come and see for yourself why ELM has been Hillsboro's early childhood school of choice, referred by pediatricians, educators, and learning specialists, for well over 15 years.

My daughter had never been in daycare or preschool so we were pretty weary of where we would send her off on her own for the first time. Our friends sent both their boys to ELM but we live in Beaverton and thought it was too far to commute for preschool. After looking around, we found that ELM was the best fit for our daughter.
Services
Early Learning Matters (ELM) provides a unique environment where children grow the mind and become strong and independent thinkers. ELM's early childhood programs include Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten programs, summer classes, and community, parent, and teacher education. The ELM program honors the development of the whole child; intellectually, physically, emotionally, and socially.
Where would we be without ELM? My husband and I hypothetically ask this question all the time! We question "we" rather than "our child" simply because ELM fosters the learner AND the family. By instilling the Leader in Me 7 Habits and offering Parent University Nights, our child has a clear connection between home and school.
Programs Early Learning Matters offers programs for ages 3-6 that include Preschool, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and Summer programming.

Early Learning Matters programs are developed based on a comprehensive learning framework comprised of eight critical content areas: Approaches to Learning, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Health, Language, Literacy and Communication, Mathematics, Creative Arts, Science and Technology, and Social Studies.
Our youngest students are on a path to viewing themselves as leaders and learners in the Laurel Room. Each child benefits from a carefully-designed environment based on who they are as an individual, the social and cultural context in which they live, and where they are in their development.

Comprehensive learning framework based on eight critical content areas: Approaches to Learning, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development and Health, Language, Litercy and Communication, Mathematics, Creative Arts, Science and Technology, and Social Studies.
ELM's Pre-Kindergarten students receive exposure to a full Kindergarten curriculum in either the Elderberry or Sequoia Rooms. By using hands-on, engaging, and developmentally appropriate experiences for learning, our Pre-Kindergarten students gain knowledge in traditional Kindergarten content and continue to develop important critical thinking and leadership skills.

My daughter has had the best experience at ELM. She started in the Laurel room with Ms. Linsey and worked her way up to the Sequoia room(Kinder) with Ms. Kim. She has grown so much over the years. She has become more independent and confident as well. With the student teacher ratio being so low, she has learned significantly at school. She will be entering the first grade well prepared. All of the teachers are great. They are very kind, patient and loving. The environment at elm is fun and inspiring. My child loves going to school everyday. She always talks about how much she loves her teachers

My wife and I toured a dozen places before sending our son to ELM three years ago. Now our daughter is attending and I have been 100% satisfied with everything about the program, week after week, year after year.

I can't speak highly enough about this facility. The staff and environment are truly inspirational. My daughter attends preschool here and loves going every day. I wish there were more places like this for her to continue learning. My husband and I are very pleased and would recommend ELM to anyone looking for a quality nurturing learning center for their preschooler or kindergartener.

Our son is a bright boy for his age, but we felt he was lacking some of the much needed social skills as a child of a stay at home parent. We are so blessed and happy to have found ELM! The teachers are amazing, they allow the kids to guide themselves through activities with as little adult structure as possible, all while maintaining a clean and safe environment. They are helping to teach the kids some important fundamental skills through the 7 habits of highly effective people in a simple way for children to understand. I would recommend this school to anyone and everyone!

Our daughter attends the PreK program at ELM and it is a fantastic school ! She loves going to school everyday and has made leaps and bounds both academically and socially.
The teachers here are amazing, supportive and give a lot of personal attention to students. The curriculum that includes art, music and PE is excellent in addition to the small size classrooms. The ELM staff is well trained in 'The Leader In Me' program and teach students about the seven healthy habits ( using Sean Covey's 'The 7 Habits of Happy Kids' as a guide ).We are extremely happy with ELM and would highly recommend this

ELM is the perfect learning environment for little ones. As an educator and parent, I feel this school really has the whole package. The 7 Habits of Happy Kids helps the kids learn how to be healthy and compassionate members of society. The "learning through play" philosophy is so appropriate for this age group. My son is thriving at this school. He is very strong academically, but struggles with his physical coordination and self-control. I love the way the teachers allow him to grow at his own pace in each area. They provide him with ample opportunity to improve in weaker areas, but encourage

ELM was an easy choice to make after spending much time researching our options. Kandy and her staff came highly recommended from several friends and I completely have full trust within her organization. We love that our son is engaged more and loves learning. He is constantly talking about school to anyone who is willing to listen. He loves the routine and we can certainly attest to his improved demeanor at home when doing any type of school work we give him. If we could keep him in the program longer than what is currently offered we definitely would. I have the utmost respect for ELM and it

ELM has been a wonderful preschool for our son. Since starting here, he has developed socially, emotionally and academically. He loves his school and is always talking about his teachers whom he absolutely loves and his friends. We love the "Leader in Me" program and how it teaches the students to apply life and leadership skills in practical situations. I would highly recommend this preschool to anyone looking for an great preschool for their child.

ELM is The Best Preschool in Hillsboro Area. I researched substantially before deciding to send my son to ELM. I was most concerned about whether he would like the school environment and to my pleasure, from day 1 on, he was always super excited to go to ELM. I love their all-round curriculum that focuses not only on academics, but on the physical, social, mental as well as emotional development of the kids. My son has developed friendship with his classmates there. And they have the most amazing teachers who are well trained in their Leader In Me program, and know each student's weakness and strengths

ELM has been a great experience for my son and for us (parents) as well. They have a great academic curriculum for young growing minds, a friendly staff with excellent communication to the families, and great at encouraging life skills not only for the children but for parents as well through seminars. As for our son... We knew he was academically ready to start school, but we weren't sure about emotionally. He did have a hard time adjusting and things did get worse before they got better. But the staff still felt he had the potential to adjust. They were able to focus on his needs during school

Our son has been going to ELM for almost 2 years and I can honestly say we couldn't be happier
with the care and skills/education that he has received at this school. We have noticed a tremendous change in his social and academic skills. He absolutely loves going to school and doesn't want to leave when I pick him up. The combination of using a play-based approach to learning and "The Leader in Me" program is what attracted us first to this school. We are confident that with everything he has learned at ELM, he is more than ready to tackle kindergarten and beyond. I would highly recommend ELM

It was our great fortune to find and have the opportunity to enroll our son and daughter at ELM. Both of our kids absolutely loved learning to make friends and having the opportunity to grow at their own pace. The environment at ELM is very inviting and perfect for kids to explore and develop their own unique talents. Class time is structured to give students time to both discover on their own and to share together with their age group. My son discovered his love of building with his hands and frequently gravitated to the block studio while my daughter found that she loved to draw and create her
