Services
Dr. Joyce Kim received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology at the University of California at Berkeley. She then attended Pacific University in Oregon where she was awarded her Doctor of Optometry degree. Dr. Kim is a member of the American Optometrist Association. She has been dedicated to serving the Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Santa Clara, and San Jose community in her practice for over thirty five years with many long-time patients.
The recommended frequency for eye exams for adults is every 12 months if you have glasses, contacts, have had eye surgery, in visually demanding industry or have other risk factors. For other adults, it is every 24 months. You can read the advice of the American Optometric Association. Joy Optometry offers full service eye exams.
Dr. Kim and team are the best in the business. They are so fantastic that I drive to Sunnyvale from Oakland for my visits. I was put off by the high pressure sales tactics for supplements and other things I didn't want. It was clear that she considered me a loss as a patient, because I came in wanting only what the vision plan paid for. She did a test for macular degeneration and made me pay for it, even though it should have been covered by Medicare. She exaggerated the severity of the problem (I later saw an ophthalmologist for a better exam). Very good place to check your vision and order new pair of glasses... BUT avoid buying frames from them, prices are unbelievably expensive. Frame that costs on amazon or even official web page only $180 they sell for almost $400, the one that costs $80, they sell for $200... so this is very disappointing, that is why I put 3 stars.

I have been going to Joy Optometry for the last 2 years. I have seen both Dr. Chi and Dr. Kim. Both are very thorough with the eye exam, and are not at all pushy about buying frames at their practice. I have bought a frame from them once. Dr. Kim helped me choose the right one and made sure I did not pay more than what my insurance covered. I am very happy with the service I get here.
A special mention about Michelle who takes care of the front desk. She is very helpful, welcoming and accommodating. She had helped me reschedule appointments on short notice without making a big deal out of it.

I've been going to Dr. Kim for many years and have always felt that the office staff is professional and friendly and Dr Kim quite knowledgeable and caring. When a minor issue (infrequently) has arisen with either a contact or a pair of glasses they have been very responsive and taken care of the problem quickly.

My family and I have been coming to Dr. Kim's office for more than 10 years now. I get my eye checkups elsewhere, but my parents get theirs done here. I usually just come here to buy my glasses because they have a great selection frames, and if I'm confused about a style, they are great in helping me nail it right. I'll usually drop by periodically to get a few things tightened here and there, and it's always done well. Their service is swift, professional, and also friendly. Very warm and helpful, no complaints whatsoever. Keep up the great work!

Came here since I was little but I had a 15 year hiatus, yes I'm bad but I still can see so that's a good sign.
Dr. Kim is one of the nicest people you'll meet. In the 10 min visit she asked me questions I would never bring up and took the time to ask how my mom and grandma was, even after 15 years not visiting her. That's just plain customer service from a doctor.
I'm definitely making sure I do my yearly exam here

This is my optometrist. I usually see the other person, but I have had Joyce Kim once and she was great too. They are both very friendly and make me feel comfortable.

They take pretty care of me and try to help me get back all the rebates I can for my contact lens. One year I wanted to get glasses and they took about 30 minutes helping me try on glasses and figuring out what glasses work with my head shape which was great.

I went here to get my contacts, the doctor is ok, but she doesnt work with you to figure out the exact contact that you will need and is in a rush to "sell" you the contacts. and also this place is a rip of they charged me 70 dollars per box of contacts when i could get the same ones online for 39.
