Founded in 1975, The Family Academy of Bethesda started as a 'home' that took care of infants in the nearby neighborhoods of Bethesda. The once 'family daycare' still remains in its original home and office. Hence the name 'Family Academy'. As more and more children enrolled, the 'family' grew to become a 'center'.

In 1999, the Montessori Method was introduced, and Family Academy graduated to a Private School, approved by the Maryland Department of Education in 2000. The program was so successful that the school had to expand beyond the premises of 4324 Montgomery Avenue to accommodate the growing waitlist. The Practical Life exercises allow the child to develop a meaningful degree of independence and self-discipline.

Our baby girl was here from 3 months to 6 months old. At 6 months old, I decided to quit my job and stay home and take care of her full time, however, I can’t say enough amazing things about FAB during the 3 months our daughter was there. The growth she showed in 3 months was incredible. Now, 6 months, she excels at tummy time, sitting up, rolling over both ways and socializing in general and I know FAB helped with all of these. The teachers are amazing- they truly care and we could see how much they loved her and she loved them. Great communication and friendly caring people all around. We would

Really impressed with the quality of teachers here. You can tell they are very selective when hiring their teachers and that made the difference for me when I was visiting and choosing schools. We have been there two years now and I have been extremely pleased with our experience at Family Academy of Bethesda in both the younger and older classrooms. They are rare in that they offer a Montessori-style program for infants and one-year-olds.
They take care of things for you and are completely child-centered, and they somehow manage to be laid back and provide a stronger academic program than most

My son cried in every day care we took him to in DC.. until we brought him here. The teachers are genuinely caring and the other children are kind and welcoming. George found a home here and we love it here!
