Your choice of Italian, Ranch, Thousand Island, Blue Cheese, or Jalapeo-Cilantro dressing. Shrimp and onions sauteed with cascabel chile and a pinch of chipotle, served with tomatoes, avocado, carrots, cheese, and romaine lettuce. Grilled salmon with lettuce, tomatoes, red cabbage, carrots, onions, with a boiled egg and special homemade dressing.

I'll be honest, I went there for lunch a few months ago and was decidedly unimpressed. This used to be a monthly go to but the food was boring and the service was lacking. But a company lunch was arranged there and I went along and THE FOOD WAS EXCELLENT! It was back to its old self, thank goodness. I'll be putting it back into rotation

We went because we wanted a michelada. OMG the worse michelada I've ever had. They do have large mugs for them but because it was so bad I thought I'd give the margarita a try. Wrong decision! It was horrible. Chips and salsa, horrible. I dont know why this place has survived for so long. The servers were great and were very nice.

Very disappointed the last few times we visited.
Slow service, quality of food went down (tilapia tasted too fishy, tostada bowl tasted like it came from a can, carne asada meat tough, margarita very light in tequila). I'm willing to give it a try one more time since I am loyal to this restaurant and we support local small businesses. But I really hope things change. I really loved this place.

Mexican food is my favorite. I ordered the Amigo Burrito Supreme with Chili Verde. This blew me away. First off, it's huge! My first bite was a party in my mouth. This was the best burrito I have ever had ever! This was the best choice I have made in 40 years eating at Mexican restaurants. I do not live in San Jose anymore but my daughter does. I cannot wait to go back and order this again. You will not be disappointed.

The food is not great. I took my daughter and we had a taco salad I was afraid for her to eat the chicken because it did not look cooked. They don't give you hot sauce or offer it, you have to ask for it. I have eaten here several times and keep wanting it to be good but the food, it's bad. I keep try to give it a chance. The fried ice cream was good but the actual food, I don't recommend.

Great food - friendly staff - they really tried hard to make sure it was an enjoyable evening and meal. The venue was very clean and the menu was true to form of any decent Mexican restaurant. Had a bit of an incident with a bus boy throwing water around that hit us, but the management took care of it immediately!

We where headed to another restaurant but came here instead. I'm glad cause it was delicious!! I'm glad we didn't eat at the other place. It's hard to find good Mexican food these days. We got the enchiladas and it was great. Beans where good! You can tell they made the food with love. They must have a grandma back in the kitchen.

First time here and we really enjoyed it. Table side fresh guacamole was excellent. Margaritas were very good to but a little to big for me. Next time I will order a smaller one. Our dinner came out hot and delicious. I had 2 beef enchiladas with rice and beans but was only able to finish one. Definitely give you a lot of food. Staff was very friendly and made sure our needs were met. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to family and friends. There was also live music outside

The chicken tortilla soup was bad . No fresh vegetables over cooked dried out little tiny pieces of chicken . Huge bowl of mostly broth . The red sauce on the Tamale was sour . We hadn't been there in a long time because the service and the food wasn't that good so we tried somewhere else . I will never go back to El amigo horrible food . The problem is they have no competition in the Santa Teresa area as far as Mexican restaurants, somebody should open up fabulous Mexican restaurant up here in south sj .

I don't like ordering To-Go at restaurants because it usually doesn't satisfy the same or they pack it horribly, but El Amigo seems to know what they're doing! I got my chips & salsa still, silverware & napkins, and my Chile verde plate didn't looked like it was skimped. It looked full just how it would've if I dined in.
This is the spot to go if you are craving chile verde. I get grossed out when meat has fat on it, but every time I've ordered it here I'm able to eat every piece of meat on my plate because there's no chewy parts on it and the sauce

So did management change? We were there Sunday and wow the food was bland. When did they put garbanzo beans in dishes?
Also, carnitas burrito had SHRIMP! When it was not on the menu. Is it new management or new chef?
I don't know what happened but the food has changed from at least a year or so ago.
No spice in their salsa anymore, the vegetarian flautas are bland now and I swore it was cheese and potatoes but maybe I'm thinking of another restaurant?!

First of all, the number listed on their website does not work. I tried calling in my order, and all I got was a recording of their address and hours, then got hung up on. I was wondering why I was reaching a recording when it stated that they close at 8, and I was calling at 6.

I lived right behind this plaza for a year but never tried it. It is because I did not have the financial flexibility at the time and because my roommates told me that this place was not good. Went here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the service, open dining space, and food here. Also the menu is quite extensive.

This place has a very nice setting, friendly service, and food bursting with flavors. The tortillas are made fresh and served warm with food. There salsa is very good, not bland like other places. They even have a spicy salsa if you ask. We had enchiladas, Chile Verde, Chili Colorado, & menudo. They were all very good. The agua de Jamaica was is a must here! They also have a nice looking brunch buffet if you are very hungry. Can't wait to come back on my next visit to San Jose.
