Susan and Joe Steffen loved going to farm auctions in the Chicago area and soon had way too much great old stuff crowding their home. So they started in the business by renting a small space in an Antiques Mall which soon escalated to their being in 4 Malls.
After Joe's retirement, they moved back to the Bay Area and with the help of their son, Tim Taylor, opened their first retail store, The Steffen Collection, in 2001 in Martinez, Calif. Joe and Susan tried retirement for a couple of years, but felt drawn back to the business. It is good to be doing business where we live.

The good news is that while Athena is sorely missed, we have added a new bundle of joy to our home and shop. We want you to meet LuLu. The Aussie Doodle was "invented" to fill the need to have a hypo-allergenic service dog (initially a seeing eye dog). They become willing and lovable companions and are often used for therapy.
When visiting our store, you will more than likely also meet Athena. Athena is our shop dog and our fur baby. She loves to greet our customers and to help in the shop. She is very gentle and loves to play with her toys. We spend a lot of time at our store and love to have her with us for company and she loves to help us work.
Benicia is a thriving community. The downtown area has plenty of unique, one of a kind shops including antique stores, restaurants, coffee shops and so much more. The Benicia Certified Farmers Market will begin. The hours are from 4-8 pm and it is located on First Street between B and D Streets. You will find amazing produce, flowers, arts and crafts, specialty foods and so much more.
