The driving force behind the IvyMaven mission is my particular mix of education, experience, and personal history. I'm a first-generation college graduate who attended city, state, and private universities. I earned a Ph. D. in Clinical Psychology from Syracuse University, counseled undergraduates, and also trained as an individual and family therapist and researcher.
For several years I worked as a Child and Adolescent Development Specialist for Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. I led a team of professionals, providing educational consulting to parents and schools. Typically this included in-depth assessment of individual learning styles, strengths and weaknesses, academic achievement, and more.

I offer a 30 minute complimentary consult in person, or by telephone, or on Zoom/Skype/Facetime. Designed for families who want thorough assistance throughout the college planning process, as well as for those applying to multiple highly selective schools. This can be used for circumscribed consultation related to any aspect of educational planning: evaluation of college list, application review, high school choices, transfer, graduate school.
The college admissions process need not be overwhelming. With individualized support and guidance it can be manageable, and even an exciting journey. My purpose is to streamline this process, to make it more directed, to give realistic feedback, and to encourage you to identify and pursue your own college dreams.
Wherever you are when we start, I aim to apply my knowledge to your personal college admissions goals creatively and holistically. My approach is creative because I can get you thinking in ways you've perhaps not yet considered. It is holistic because I have expertise in the complex array of factors that impact selective college admissions, and this invites us to collaborate on a multi-layered admissions campaign.
In counseling students on their path to college, outcome, of course, matters: where a student gets admitted, where they attend. But equally important is the process to reach that outcome. The college application process can be isolating because the most efficient, effective way to go about it is to keep on going down your critical path while ignoring the other candidates and the noise they are making.

Where do I begin? Helane Linzer is an expert when it comes to being an Independent College Consultant. The expertise she has in the field is absolutely remarkable. She helped me every step of the way in finding the perfect school, figuring out test scores, and putting together the best college applications that I possibly could.
