Kadampa Meditation Center Long Island (KMC-LI) is a peaceful place of refuge and spiritual encouragement in the heart of Huntington with a branch location in Port Jefferson. Inspired by the books and teachings of modern-day Kadampa Buddhist master, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, we present meditation and the teachings of Buddha in an accessible manner that can easily be understood and integrated into our modern lives.
The General Program (GP) is an ideal starting point for those interested to find out more about Buddhism and meditation. It introduces basic Buddhist view, teachings, and meditations through lunchtime and evening drop-in classes which are usually supplemented by optional day courses, weekend courses and meditation retreats.
All of our prayers and meditation practices are recited in English with audio accompaniment. These chanted prayer practices are open to all and free of charge. They are suitable for beginners as well as more advanced practitioners. This practice is the heart essence of Kadampa Buddhism. In the first part we visualize our Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongkhapa and make prayers and requests to purify negativity, accumulate merit, and receive blessings.
KMC Long Island and its Port Jefferson branch location each has its own quaint bookstore, excellent resources for books on Buddhism, ritual items, and accessories. These bookstores carry the written works of modern Buddhist meditation master, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, an accomplished author of 23 highly acclaimed books that perfectly transmit the ancient wisdom of Buddha.
KMC Long Island offers gift cards that can be applied to any IN-PERSON meditation class, retreat, workshop or Empowerment at either our main center in Huntington or our Port Jefferson branch location. Gift cards are especially well-suited for that special someone who's been thinking about trying meditation or attending a class, but just needs some incentive to get out there and do it!

LOVE LOVE LOVE Kadampa Meditation Center! The staff is so warm, I love the conversations we have and the safety I feel. This is my home away from home. I wasn't one to really enjoy meditation much but I've learned to love it. It doesn't matter your background, whether you are religious, spiritual, what have you, the center welcomes you with open arms which is why I am so drawn to the meditation center. They have many classes to offer at various locations too which make it flexible for me to attend a class. And it's by donation, no one is turned away for not having the suggestion donation.

I came in, surprised to find a piece of Tibet in New York, only to have a lovely and impromptu time speaking with Holly. It was an extraordinarily auspicious happenstance, and I'm especially honored that she and her students took so much of their time late in the evening to be with me. Another plentiful helping of gratitude to you all for your patience. May your own journeys be likewise blessed by strangers, that you realize the warmth struck in my heart.

My family and I have been attending Dipamkara Meditation Center for 14 years. It has always been so welcoming and the people are very friendly. You can feel the peace just walking in the door.
We were amazed to find out it is run by volunteers who were very happy and inspiring.
Our lives have been changed in such a positive way and I would encourage everyone to visit.

Dipamkara has changed my life! I was looking for a spiritual center that provided teachings, meditation and a community. Dipamkara Meditation Center has all of this. There are classes nearly every day and many evenings. The teachings are profound and given in such an experiential, easy to understand way that you naturally want to apply them into your daily life. The community is a friendly, fun and compassionate group of people.
I highly recommend Dipamkara.

Walking through the doors of Dipamkara Meditation Center will transform your life as long as you are open and give yourself over to the practice of meditation. It is afterall a practice, meaning results will probably not be immediate, but if you give yourself over to the process, results will be definite. What you learn inside will "heal your mental continuum." The Dipamkara sangha community is wonderful, caring, kind, and supportive. Everyone is welcome - it doesn't matter your age, religion, race, ethnicity. There are classes for kids, teens, and adults, weekly drop-in classes, as well as study
