In early 2015, Dan Borsch and Scott Lukemire had an opportunity to grow their love for the old Louisville neighborhood with the purchase of a beautiful corner building in the Toonerville Trolley neighborhood of old Louisville. We both grew up with a love of delis and great handmade to order sandwiches piled high with the best meats and cheeses!
We wanted to bring that passion to life for the neighbors of old Louisville and put something in place that could stand the test of time at the corner of 1st and Oak. We wanted to pay homage to the neighborhood and the trolley cars that made their mark in Lousiville and transported the work force that built this beautiful neighborhood, therefore Toonerville Deli was born.

Great food and great service. Bobbi took my order and my sandwich came out just the way I ordered it special. However, I wish they had more side options and served fountain sodas. Right now they only serve soda in aluminum cans. The internet advertised they sell pizza, but in reality they do not. I was told upon my visit for lunch that they took pizza off of the menu a long time ago.

Who doesn't need a pick me up on Mondays while working from home?? After 3 Zoom meetings, I was ready for a good lunch. I ordered from Toonerville Deli on Postmates and received my order in about 20-25 minutes!!! I got the Club which was heavenly, toasted, and full of thick crispy bacon and a third slice of bread in the middle. It came with a side of Zapp's chips. I also ordered pasta salad which was a bit small in portion size and somehow a bit sweet which was unexpected but not bad. A great local sandwich place, will order again :) Easy to order, extremely quick to arrive!

Food was exceptionally delicious. I had the chicken salad (salad) and tomato basil soup. The dressing for the salad was delicious. I’m trying the keto diet so idk if the dressing is sugar free but it is a sweet vinaigrette. The soup had large delicious chunks of tomato. Food was ready in less that 5 mins ordered pick up. I will definitely come back hope to try everything on the menu. This was perfect and quick on the go food Because I work at the barbershop on the same street called Beyond The Cut and it was very convenient walk

I'm a huge fan of ham and cheese sandwiches but this place takes it to the next level! Highly recommend
Edit: Back again. So they keep switching buildings or it's just one big building now?? I walk in about 10:38, only a lady in the back. Wait until 10:45 to ask if anyone is taking orders and she says that it doesn't open till 11... so you don't open until 11 but your door is open to the public and your hours say different??? The only reason I'm staying is because I'm hungry and I worked last night so I'm to tired to go to burger boy down the street.

We came here for lunch on a Saturday. When we arrived, there was only one other person in the place just sitting at the bar. The place was completely empty. That was really surprising for a neighborhood restaurant on a Saturday afternoon.
We ordered the Toonerville sandwich - corned beef, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, with house-made dressing on grilled marble rye. We also ordered El Fuego - Chipotle corn beef, pepper jack cheese, hot pepper sauerkraut, Chipotle mayo, and creamy coleslaw. You can either get it with the seasoned tater tots or their house salad. We decided on the house salad. The house

My friends all know that I am a sucker for a reuben. The two things that I love the most about Toonerville Deli are the variety of reubens and the TOMATO BASIL SOUP! I suppose that is a good chunk of the menu that I love then.
You can tell that a lot of thought is put into the ingredients on each sandwich as to how the flavors compliment each other. The meats are always so flavorful and thinly sliced, while the breads are thick and perfectly toasted. I like to go with other people so I can split sandwiches and get a wider variety. Some of my favorites include the Toonerville, you can't go

Been here several times for lunch. Great sandwiches and relaxing spot. Haven't been here in the evening but Happy hour deal looks great. Whole new atmosphere since they expanded. Usually just one person waiting tables at lunch but service is still great. Not a long wait for food. One of my regular spots when I'm in the area and no plans to change.

While known for their Reubens, I did want to venture into the other parts of their menu for non-reuben lovers like myself. Unfortunately the adventure wasn't as great as the reviews of their other signature sandwiches. I got the tuna melt. The tuna was actually nicely seasoned, but the cheese was not melted at all. The tots were fine, a bit cold. The pasta salad was very strange. It almost had a sweet flavor to it due to the seasoning? I couldn't finish it. I must admit, I was disappointed because I had heard such great things about their more signature sandwiches. However, they do have

Went to this place based off reviews I had seen. Decided to order my favorite sandwich any where which is a Corned Beef Reuben. Had to take it to go since my hubby wanted somalian down the street. First when you walk in you are confused if you are in the right place. It looks like a sports bar that's open during the day. Not really feeling it but it works for others I guess. I placed my order with the "bartender" and waited. It came out in about 10 minutes and off I went. The sandwich wasnt the best Reuben I've ever had. It was decent but not really worth the price. Needed more

This place is amazingly special. The owners are lovely and the food is amazing. We currently don't live there but I have to convince my wife every night not to fly back for the Chef Salad and El Fuego. I've promised her that when we visit, it will be the first place we go. The cucumber salad on the Chef is really something amazing, so don't be afraid to try it!

I ordered the 'Scotty Doesn't Know' but switched out the roast beef for turkey. This was by far one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Perfectly balanced flavors. I wish I would have taken a picture to share but it was devoured.
Owner should add this iteration to menu and call it 'Fiona Doesn't Know'!

Cute place, delicious sandwiches and quick service.
I had the Toonerville, which is a reuben, along with a cup of their tomato basil soup. This came with a cookie so I opted for peanut butter. The sandwich was generous and made well, the soup was creamy and with a bit of sweetness, the cookie was the perfect size and just enough sweet to end the meal.
I dont often get over this way but it is nice to know I have options for lunch when I am!

I'm going to be honest, I was skeptical as hell with their main sandwiches being variations of Rubens. Because EVERYONE does Rubens, and EVEYONE thinks their Rubens are the greatest. Kind of like how everyone thinks they make the best Chili or wings in the WHOLE entire world. Anyway, I got "The Three A'Meat'os" which had Pastrami, Corned-Beef and Roast Beef. Got the combo, so it came with chicken and dumpling soup, a drink , and a chocolate chip cookie. It was all very savory and delicious! I'm not sure if they make their own cookies or if they outsource them, but

Back in the day, I was an Ermin's (which was located at this location) fan. When it closed, I was upset. However, what opened was quite a pleasant surprise: Toonerville Deli!!! I try to pack my lunch for work frequently, but if I'm going out for lunch, this is my TOP SPOT. Want a Reuben? This is you place. There are over half a dozen types of Reubens with flavors meshing so well. Miss Ermin's tomato basil soup? Toonerville's gotcha. Pizza? Breakfast, including bagels made in house? Delicious deserts? Ummm... You really can't go wrong, and sandwiches are large, so you may

I have to say, I was skeptical when Ermin's was bought out and meant to be a deli. But I was pleasantly surprised.
Place is clean, orderly and the staff are adequate. Not friendly but certainly not rude or inattentive. Sandwiches are pricey (which is why I give four stars) but everything I've had here has been delicious, and filling. Their pasta salad is unusual, but not bad. Just different. I'd opt for the coleslaw as a side though.
They even kept the famous tomato basil soup from Ermin's (café that was in the same building) same recipe and all!

Was hungry. Saw Toonerville. Hadn't visited yet. Walked in. Very clean. Pretty busy. Ordered the Toonerville. It's a reuben. I'm not crazy about reubens. Glad I got it. Was amazing. Will get it again. Bag of chips hard to open. I became angry. Nearly wrecked the car. Yelled a serenity now. Calmed down. Finally got them open. Delicious. Will get again. Like this place. Will return. No 5 stars for hard to open chips.
