Cherry City Metals
Purchased in 1979 by Richard and Jeanne Schultz, Cherry City Metals has grown to become the largest scrap metal recycling and processing facility in the Mid-Willamette Valley. Originally named City Recycling and operating on just one acre of land, we would call our Cherry Avenue location home for more than 19 years.

In 1998, after numerous expansions and a name change, we moved to our current location in the Salem Industrial Park. This 10 acre facility utilizes state of the art equipment to process material that is shipped all over the world.
Services
Cherry City Metals can bring a crew on location to dismantle and transport equipment ready for disposal. If you are faced with a challenging demolition or industrial clean up, Cherry City Metals has the resources and experience to help you with your scrap metal recycling.

We have a crew that is experienced in scrap metal clean up and transportation, our team will help you maximize your scrap metal revenues and we have the equipment to quickly and safely load and transport your scrap metal back to our plant for processing. We are experienced in working with a variety of non-performing structures such as machinery, equipment, old structures, buildings or warehouses.
Cherry City Metals has a ten acre facility that uses state of the art equipment to process material and scrap metal that is shipped all over the world. According to Oregon state law, ferrous material (steel and most magnetic material) can be paid immediately with cash or check.

Non-Ferrous material (such as aluminum, copper, brass, stainless steel) can not be paid until a mandatory 3 day waiting period in which a check must be issued and mailed to the customer. The only exception to this law is for businesses that are incorporated or partnerships specified as LLC. Businesses that are incorporated or LLC's can be paid immediately.
Cherry City Metals has a eco-friendly metal recycling operation that prides itself on being a model in the water filtration system process. We perform regular ground and water sampling to ensure a healthy and sustainable future for the environment. All metal processing done at our facility is handled and contained on concrete to eliminate soil contamination.
Cherry City Metals takes several measures to prevent purchasing stolen goods. At our facility, you will find cameras that record all metal transactions and movement. All payments are recorded and tracked by license plate. We work closely with local law enforcement as well as legislators to adhere to current laws and help create future laws that are in the best interest of the community and our customers.
Scrap and junk metal has way of piling up when you least expect it. Cherry City Metals can assist you with your scrap metal clean up. Perhaps you parked an old truck for the last time. Maybe you discarded some copper wire after your most recent renovation. Then you discarded some aluminum gutters that had seen better days.

Very professional scrap yard. I was able to turn in an old 'fridge and microwave and get $22 in my pocket (make that gas tank) rather than paying to dispose of them. You have to haul old appliances off either way so you might as well get some $$ for the scrap.

Drove a hour to come here to find out theyre closed on Saturday when their hours show they're open. Go to Albany to recycle metal, better prices and they don't close randomly.

Had all kinds of stuff and then some. Some things were way over priced so I didn't end up buying what I picked out. They will tell you they look it up on the internet to see its value, but I checked myself and they were way off on the price. They over priced the item.

I have been the main scale buyer at Cherry city metals the past seven years! from 2014-2021! If you’ve been to cherry city metals and scrapped metal you definitely know me the blonde with a big smile and the best customer service haha. Working for cherry city Metals opened so many doors for me. I was a young single mother when I started, working two jobs barely getting by when they hired me. Going to work every day was like my second home. most employees at cherry city metals have been there over five years. There is even multiple employees that have been there 20+ years. I made extremely good

Went with a family member in their pick up and trailer to unload a load of sheet metal.
When you arrive your vehicle is weighed and you are given a ticket, don't loose this ticket. You need it in the aluminum area and you need it when you are leaving.
They have two main areas you unload your Sheetmetal - one for'tin' one for 'aluminum', they direct you where to go. Before you come there it is best to separate the metal types if you can, if you unload all in the tin area you will get less money, aluminum, brass, copper etc. pays more.
If you have your metal separated then unload the aluminum

Went in as a first timer to this location needing a saddle to cradle a split 55 gallon drum for a raised bed garden. Had one thing in mind and left there with an equally sufficient alternative. This is a metal tradesperson's dream lot! I'll definitely be back....again and again!

Every time I go out there I get inspired to do another "things on top of things" sculpture (Apologies to Monty Python). Modern technology produces almost any shape imaginable in steel and aluminum, which is half the battle if you're not as rich as Jeff Koons and his ilk. Tom, who runs the scrap section, is a great guy and and a great welder and does not mind sharing a tip of two to a mediocre welder like me.

I left a review talking about my experience on their Facebook page.
One of their employees or the owner, commented and without addressing my issue, he insulted my appearance.
Take your business elsewhere, where your concerns will be taken seriously.

Just left here and not happy, employees were great, however lack of signage and flow through yard needs improvement and steel price was terrible!! I can not beleive they are paying as of today 85$ for a ton of sheet steel wich they labeled "tin". Load was clearly sheet steel!! Most yards right now are paying 120-145 per ton for steel!! Sadly they are the only large recycler in the salem area. Next time i will pay the gas money to go to a more reputable recycler!!! The weigh scales seem to be off also- my truck empty with me in it weighs about 4,370 and there scale put it at 4,480. Hmmm

Been buying steel for a large project for many years. Cherry City exceeded ALL other experiences. First this place is organized, like OCD organized. Second Tom and Kenny will help you with just about anything they can, was quite impressed with the customer service, in the Salem hot sun. Finally they had what we needed and saved us thousands.
The only improvement would be if they would come help us fabricate and weld..

Their "Artists Corner" aka scrap metal area is really awesome - tons of shapes, sizes, gears, trays, pipes, wheels, you name it. Only downside is the regular steel costs $1.00/lb, and the stainless steel costs $4.00/lb. Some very rusty, small square scrap pieces cost $.50/lb but there isn't much variety in them. The only reason this place gets stars down is because of cost - Clackamas Steel sells at $.50 or $.40/lb, and they give a student discount.

Worth the drive from Portland if you want some really neat stuff.
