After 72 years, Sindbad's is still thriving, thanks to our winning combination of fresh quality seafood, great Angus steaks, half pound Angus burgers, home made Clam Chowder, and most of all, our loyal customer base! We have plenty of guest wells, and boaters are always welcome to stay over for brunch, lunch or dinner.
In 1949, brothers-in-law "Buster" Blancke and "Van" VanHollebecke, in a ramshakle building at the Detroit River (previously the site of a prohibition-era speakeasy, and also once owned by the sister of a Detroit mayor) opened Sindbad's.
Named for, arguably, the best known sailor in history, the spot became the Detroit River Racing Association's gathering spot and quickly gained popularity as a place offering good food and wet goods, a convivial atmosphere and good prices.That hasn't changed. As you can see from some of the pictures, through the years, Sindbads has bumped out some walls, added a room or two and, basically, grown.

Sindbad's is "First Come, First Serve", so come on in and we will get you seated when your whole party is present. For the Boaters we have transient slips for you to dock your Boat to enjoy Cocktails, Lunch or Dinner in the Restaurant. Our Slips can accommodate Boats from 20 to 70 Feet long! You may stay the night for a small fee.
Sohar is a port city in the country of Oman where Sindbad, the sailor is reputed to have been born. Our Sohar Room is located on the top floor of the restaurant, overlooking the Detroit River and Belle Isle, with a large outdoor balcony for your use. This is a great place to host your wedding, birthday, retirement, business meeting, or just a party for the fun of it!
DEPOSIT: A $10 per person deposit is required at the signing of this contract to guarantee the date of your function. Deposits are non-refundable 60 day's prior to the function. Refunds requested before the 60 days will be issued less 50%. CANCELATIONS: Should you cancel the function 7 days or less prior to the event you will be charged 20% of the estimated total of your function, plus loss of deposit.
