You will notice that we don't have "Market Price" listed on our menu because we believe our prices shouldn't change depending on the season. We are a locally owned and operated restaurant, which means we also strive to support local. We purchase all of our seafood from local distributors to support other small business owners, just like us.
All of our food is made fresh, in-house daily, so we guarantee the food you're eating is the best of the best! I can't attest to the inside since my husband picked up to go food from us and I can't compare it other fish and chips places in Charleston bc I haven't had them. My husband ordered two of the whole fish and chips.

Services
A Salt N Battered was founded because owners, Teresa and Mark, wanted to bring a concept to West Ashley that it just didn't have - reasonably priced seafood that is fresh, local, delicious, and doesn't cost you an arm and a leg. Inspired by Mark's love for British Fare and Teresa's passion for the hospitality industry, A Salt N Battered was born.
Everything on our menu is fresh, never frozen and made in-house every day. We make it a point to support local businesses by purchasing all of our seafood from local distributors, and the fish in our fish n' chips is fresh Alaskan cod because we serve only the best to our customers. All of our recipes were developed in-house just for us, so we know everything on our menu is authentic and unlike anything you have ever tasted before.
There is something for everyone at A Salt N Battered! Stop in any day of the week and enjoy that classic taste of British fish n' chips with our secret Southern twist! A Salt N Battered was created with you in mind, which is why we offer the freshest seafood in the area, cooked to perfection, all at a great value!

It’s so bad. The restaurant is clean and the service is good but the food is terrible. Myself and my family is from Liverpool. We were so excited to go here and it could not have been more disappointing. If you want fried fish and French fries it’s alright. But if you want fish and chips stay away.

We just moved to Charleston and was looking for Fish and Chips like we use to have up north. We found this place on yelp and decided to give it a try. My husband had the combo and and I had the Half fish and chips (COD). We were both shock at how much food we got for the price and how great it was. Angel was friendly and fun and we both had a great time and loved the food. We will be back.

Bummed. Picked up a fish lunch a year or so back for my mother. It was perfect. Lightly battered and perfectly cooked fish, delicious fries and onion rings and banana pudding.
What a difference a year makes.
The fish and fries were over cooked and greasy. The fries may have been left over from the night before, sure looked like it. The only good was the
coleslaw and pudding and bottle of beer.

Having spent a year in the UK back in my Navy Days, I guess I got spoiled by the abundance of incredible fish n' chips. Around Chucktown, the best is still Codfather. As far as ASAB goes, not great. I was the only person in the place, and though friendly enough, the staff weren't particularly attentive. The fish was OK, but just. Malt vinegar makes everything better but the crunchy crust just wasn't there. There was a home-made feel to the decor, but not in a shabby chic way. I might go back just to be sure, but you except for the bar offerings, a chippie purist will be happier at

I have lived in the Charleston area for a year at this point, and so far, "A Salt N Battered" has given me the best experience out of any other restaurant. They serve the best fish and chips in town, although their chicken wings are not to be slept on either. Killer happy hour specials are available 7-days a week, along with other daily specials. I believe they are the only restaurant in their proximity with a NFL package, and the bartenders will make you feel right at home (S/O to TJ and Angel.)
I highly recommend!

This was a mixed bag. This is a mostly just a fried seafood restaurant. Service was great. Drinks were refilled, sauces were given, they made sure we had everything we needed. As far as the food goes, the catfish was fantastic, as was the cod. People all seemed to like the hush puppies too. The fried pickles were a no go. They were extremely salty, and this is coming from a salt loving fool. The Cole slaw was something left on everyone's plate as well. I enjoyed the boom boom shrimp while others thought it was over seasoned. The fries were just fine and although the onion rings look really

We visited Salt and Battered last night for dinner. We were able to walk because of where we were staying. Very cute, clean place to eat. Seems like they have regulars who come to the bar which is always a good sign. Angel was an awesome server and the fish was great. My husband got a combo of catfish and shrimp and I got the cod half basket. All very tasty but the fried shrimp was delicious, had an old bay flavor. Big portions and a ton a fries. Would definitely go back!!

I've been there a couple times, to be sure of my opinion; I really wanted to like it. The fish and chips are well seasoned but lacked traditional style I have become accustomed to. I wish it was just that as well, todays visit gave me the knowledge they have no standard. My fish was over fried and the bun slightly burnt. As slow as they were at rhe time I would have expected to be redone before serving, with every bite I tasted charcoal. I hope your visit is better bit I will not give them another opportunity again, to many good places to take a chance again. Bye.

We had 3 cod fish baskets 2 were okay but mine was very strange tasting I don't know if it was the batter or grease it was fried in and they were a little over browned...I would like to say the crab dip appetizer was great and the girl serving us was running the whole restaurant and was very friendly

Cute place in the middle of West Ashley. Parking can be a bit tricky if you're in a larger vehicle since the spots are quite small. The place is very clean. They do $1 pbr on Thursdays and have happy hour specials as well. They used potato batter on the outside of the crab balls. The potato was grated right then and there! The hush puppies were fantastic. I ordered the whiting fish and found it to be not very meaty on the ends (probably just a quality of the fish) and would definitely get the cod next time. The to go bag was decorated with fish drawings and cute fish stickers which was a nice touch

A West Ashly hidden gem. Bright and clean eating area. Restroom was spotless. Friendly professional attentive staff. Hot food was hot. Chilled appetizer was chilled.
A Fish & Chips shop based on the traditional British model. I had the half fish (battered deep fried cod) & shrimp. It also came with some really great chips, (fries) and a decent sampling of coleslaw. For an appetizer I chose the crab dip which was surprisingly delicious. I didn't even have to ask for the malt vinegar. It was already present on the table when I sat down.
I had iced tea this time, but I did observe

Lunch. Ok , new place still has bugs to correct. But, batter is very thick. Mushy peas are ok, but not worth $2. Place has a Bar feeling not a restaurant. Chips are FF, not actual flat large potato slices, that I'm used too. Customer service was good. Prices are ok. Cole slaw as good. One more pain in the Butt...the seats have a small area for your you-know-what to sit on. It actually hurts sitting at the high table. Rest of seats were the same type. So, will I go back, maybe later in the year after they've addressed some of their minor issues.
