Start your review...I have used Markel to insure three different boats over the last number of years. Unfortunately, I have had two claims - one partially my fault as I lost control of my powerboat in unexpected strong currents and the second from a partial sinking of a 23 foot sailboat from most likely a failed stuffing box. In both instances, they responded within hours, sent a qualified adjuster to the scene and took care of everything needed. Their claims examiners have been friendly and professional and did what was necessary to deal with the situation. Invoices, etc. were paid promptly

I had a bad experience with Markel American Insurance Company. My agent Tanya Turner is rude and irrational. Talking to her over the phone was the worst experience I ever had.
I bought rental insurance from Markel, which includes additional living expenses up to $5,000. I live in a high-rise building. My apartment had a fire on the ground floor, which caused heavy smoke on all floors, so I stayed in hotels for ten days. Hundreds of residents in our building had rental insurance with Markel. After we filed the claim, Markel did not give us clear answers about whether they would cover our living

This was the worst insurance company experience I have ever had. My boat was damaged in heavy weather and they denied the claim. They were slow to respond and difficult to get ahold of throughout the process. Now they've cancelled me as a result of loss history even though they never paid anything out. These are bad people for sure. Avoid doing business with them if you can.
