Acting for Kids & Teens Make-A-Movie workshops offer our student actors an opportunity to get real experience working in the movies with industry professionals. We bring filmmakers, directors, make-up artists and a hardworking crew together with our incredible kids and nothing short of magic happens.
During the year we bring in special guests from LA, NY and other areas to host workshops and classes typically only available by traveling out of state. AFKT Coaches are active in the film community with TV and Film credits Our Portland Ongoing Acting Workshops and Drama Classes offer students an opportunity to learn acting, to be creative, build confidence and express themselves. They also learn about the business of acting in TV and Film. Professional development skills such as on-set etiquette, presenting headshots and resumes.

This is a wonderful professional family. My 6 year old actor attended his first class today. He gave Coach Nina a hard time, complete with emotional outbursts, and she still came out smiling and loving him. She clearly treated him well in private too because he couldn't give her enough hugs. On the way home he was talking about the exercises and class structure. It's low pressure and feels like a playgroup but he was learning solid ideas and techniques that he immediately applied to the character voice he's recording for right now.

I have been training at AFKT for about 4 years now and I have learned so many amazing things and had so many amazing opportunities. Katie and all of the coaches are so caring and take the time to learn what each individual needs to grow as an actor. The environment is so welcoming, from the moment I joined I felt a strong sense of belonging. I am endlessly thankful for Coach Katie and the other amazing coaches, as well as the staff and all of the people I have met a long the way. AFKT doesn't only teach acting, but provides a safe space for artists to feel free and encouraged to create.

Being coached by Katie was the best introduction to the professional world of acting that I could have possibly hoped for. Aside from teaching her students what it takes to be a great actor, she also leads by example and teaches you how to be a good, kind, well-rounded person. Her connections in the industry are additionally impressive, and the showcases she puts on throughout the year are incredible. As I theater student at Portland State University (who has taken numerous classes from many accomplished professors), I can not recommend Katie enough.

My son started taking classes with Katie 2 years ago. Her class sparked his love for acting. He connected with Katie right away and has grown both as an actor and as a person. Katie provides a safe and fun environment for kids to learn about the ins and outs of the business and to develop their acting abilities. She holds the kids to high standards, they have to want to work and do the work (it's a tough business!), but it's done with a lot of laughter, caring and support. We highly recommend Acting for Kids and Teens and its stellar acting coaches.

Hands down the best acting studio in Portland for young people! Perfect for those who may be a bit shy but want to explore their creative side, as well as serious actors looking for guidance in career building. Katie O'Grady provides a safe, judgement free space where actors of all levels and backgrounds can come to dive into fun, challenging work. I couldn't be the actor I am today without this amazing studio!
