MAMH convenes stakeholders across the behavioral health and public health community to address policy, budget and legal issues affecting those at risk for or living with behavioral health conditions. We disseminate knowledge emerging from clinical research, program evaluation and innovation developments to inform and activate diverse audiences in the Commonwealth and beyond.
MAMH solves problems in disparities in benefits and access to care through strategic advocacy partnerships. We target reforms in public policy, service delivery and payment methods to improve access to care and end disparities in receipt of a broad range of benefits, treatments and recovery supports upon which our constituents depend to protect and improve their mental health and well being.

MAMH is committed to ensuring that promotion is an integral part of efforts to advance behavioral health in the Commonwealth. Mental health promotion efforts can be targeted to individuals (enhancing knowledge, encouraging healthy behaviors and fostering strengths), as well as the community (building assets, strengthening community action and advancing healthy public policy).
Our policy priorities include improving children's mental health, reforming the criminal justice system, addressing the impact of racism on mental health, expanding access to housing and services, and promoting trauma-informed policy. We share some of the most striking data on these issues that have helped to shape our perspectives.
An analysis of the FY2022 Massachusetts State Budget and its implications for people with behavioral health conditions and their families. Suicide Prevention in Prisons: Ensuring Dignity and Constitutional Rights of Prisoners on Mental Health Watch.
MAMH, as a primary convener and facilitator for mental health policy and advocacy issues in the Commonwealth, works in close partnership with numerous organizations to achieve shared goals and objectives. We also advocate, educate, and collaborate with state and federal government entities on mental health policy, program, regulatory and legal issues.
The best way to deal with a problem is to prevent it from happening. When it comes to behavioral health, this rings true. There is ample research that shows addressing mental health as early as infancy can prevent behavioral health concerns down the road.
Too often we hear from families and individuals that they wish they had known the signs earlier or done something sooner but unfortunately, there is very little attention paid and money targeted to prevention efforts.By the time behavioral health concerns are addressed, they have often already reached the point of crisis, or in the worst cases, death.
