Services
Academic Arts High School is a tuition-free charter PUBLIC school serving grades 9-12. Located in West Saint Paul, we bring together environmental education and project-based learning to empower students. Students learn about the world through exploration of their individual interests and completing classroom projects that meet state academic standards.
In an increasingly complex time, it can be difficult to know the right path. At AAHS, we focus on our strong community where we get to know each other as individuals, encourage each other when times get tough, hold each other accountable, and work together to succeed. We value helpful, thoughtful actions that promote empathy and social justice.
Charter schools are public schools just like any public school. In 1992, Minnesota made history by being the first state to pass charter legislation. Many other states soon followed but Minnesota's charter school laws are still among the strongest and most student-centered in the nation. Each charter school in Minnesota has an authorizer.
Academic Arts High School acknowledges the prevalence of both racism and privilege within our community and society at large. We recognize that our nation and the systems within it, including the education system, has failed to address and dismantle structural and institutional racism, discrimination and oppression.
Our vision is a generation of young people who can navigate the world with the awareness, knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to make a positive impact. At Academic Arts High School, we continuously inform our teaching practices to ensure that they are reflective of the values aforementioned in our Mission and Vision.

A very good fit for many students who face challenges in a traditional school environment. The curriculum offers the flexibility and creativity to keep kids engaged and fosters accountability and achievement. The teachers and administration go the extra mile in helping kids achieve where other schools would give up on them. The project based curriculum isn't a good fit for everyone, but works very well for many.

I graduated from AAHS in 2014. I attended 2 public high schools and tried online schooling before finding my place at Academic Arts. I was a good student at other schools, but socially felt like an outcast and I was never encouraged to be my best. I was a little fish in a big ocean of creatures with not enough teachers to cater to individuals. However, when I found Academic Arts, I became an incredible student. The school had less than 100 students at my time of attendance. The division of 9th-12th graders was non existent. Every student knew one another and treated each other with respect as equals
