A couple of months ago, my wife passed away after years of declining health. In the last year, I needed help with her care, and hired a woman as a household employee.
I had never had an employee before, and was unprepared for the flood of forms, instructions, advice and threats from the California EDD. Most of it was incomprehensible, and I didn't have the time or energy to deal with it, so I piled it all neatly, and ignored it.
After my wife passed away, I really did need to take care of the unpaid payroll taxes and forms that should have been filed quarterly, but weren't. My CPA recommended
