The Abbott Claim winery features custom elements such as a living roof, semi-circular barrel cellar, and an underground wine library lit from an oculus above. Large canopies provide weather protection and screening for the crush pad and mobile bottling line. Airfoil-shaped, tilt-up panels were formed with Corten steel that was left in place as the exterior skin.
The owner's responsible farming practices and ardent reverence for the environment were the core values of this multi-phased project. The site-sensitive master plan consisted of a 5,000 square foot tasting lodge, two adjoining private tasting cabins, a barn conversion to a fully functional winery, two twin sub-grade barrel storage vaults, and an estate residence.
The Soter Vineyards estate residence was built tucked within a stand of fir trees. During construction, meticulous care was taken to preserve the trees. The entrance to the home provides a direct view through the home into the vineyard. The home's long shape allows for stunning views from every room.
The original headquarters for this family owned company was a McMinnville icon. Demolition of this space for the family was bittersweet, but the growing company was in need of a larger, updated space that would allow them to continue to flourish. Their new space does that and more. The McMinnville Gas headquarters now provides shop space, private offices, conference room, showroom, break room, and patio perfect for entertaining.
