The Colour Authority was founded on a passion for beautiful hair color. Our founder Darleen Hakola-Wilson always had the dream to have a Salon that specialized in hair color. She opened The Colour Authority in 1985. Darleen was the co- founder of the International Haircolor Exchange, an organization that was committed to continuing color education for the seasoned stylist at a time when that was limited.
At The Colour Authority we have continued that tradition as we continue to educate ourselves on the latest color and style trends. In 2003 the Salon was sold to Darleen's daughter Denise and her husband Tom. They are committed to continuing the tradition of beautiful hair color in a relaxed, welcoming environment.

Services
Annie did her apprenticeship with The Colour Authority and has been a stylist here for since 2002. Annie has participated in many advance education classes with Goldwell, KMS and Toni and Guy. Annie's work has even been published in Passion Magazine's Color edition for '08. One of Annie's strengths is her flexibility.
Bumble and bumble products have proven themselves to be a styling product line for the runway and the everyday consumer. It has been our top selling product and go to product line since shortly after their founding in 1990. The only patented system to noticeably repair extreme damage - turn dry, brittle hair into soft, shiny, and more resilient hair.
The Colour Authority has been training stylists in the Portland area through apprenticeship since our founding in 1985. How to educate your clients on how to reproduce their style at home with styling and product knowledge. We offer fast tracking (3 months apprentice) for stylists with 3 or more years salon experience.
At Colour Authority we encourage you to use professional products to keep your hair and color looking it's best, all hair products are guaranteed. Any hair product may be exchanged for another hair product within 30 days of purchase. Changing gowns are provided for your comfort and convenience. Colour Authority can not be responsible for damage to clothing or for items left behind over 30 days.

My first cut and color from Leah. Absolutely loved her. Best haircut I have ever had and I love the color. She was very experienced and friendly and warm. Very thankful to find her. She is moving to a different shop and I will follow her. Definitely someone who loves what she does and does the best job she can.

I came in to get some lowlights put in for fall and get a haircut by Bryanna, she was professional, personal and very fun. I was nervous to get my hair done again since the last time was a disaster but she made me feel confident in what she was gonna do and the outcome was amazing!!! My hair has never looked this good when I left a salon and the price was very fair for the amount of work she put in and the result! I would recommend everyone to get their hair colored and hair cut by Bryanna! I’m glad to have found a great hairstylist!

Oh my goodness. I don't even know what to say, I had such a great experience. They scheduled me for a consultation and that was really great because I was able to tell my stylist what I wanted and she explained the process to me and was super sweet. We scheduled my visit for a week later and she killed it! The salon is extremely clean and they sanitized everything before and after. My stylist listened to me and offered advice for at home care. And MY HAIR LOOKS AMAZING. My girl's name is Avey and she did such an amazing job. I really appreciate her listening to what I wanted to helping me figure

I have been a customer for YEARS at The Colour Authority!! The one thing I was so impressed with is the professionalism there. Denise the owner, is well, AMAZING!!! She is such a artist and master educator!! I unfortunately can't see Denise for services now because our schedules don't match up, but I've been seeing Leah and she is also AMAZING!!! Everyone there truly is. The first time I had my hair done there (back in 1997 ) Denise did it and that was seriously the FIRST time in my life I loved my hair. It's frizzy - fine - unruly and I had no idea it could look so fantastic

Diana is absolutely wonderful. She isn't listed on their website and it's a shame (although it ensures I'm able to see her when I need to!). She is absolutely wonderful. Knows exactly what she's doing, doesn't charge an arm and a leg, and is genuinely interested in making her customers happy. She clearly has a lot of experience and is able to take dark (almost black) thick Hispanic hair like my own and turn it into a beautiful blended blonde balayage. It took 2 visits but even after the first one, it was absolutely stunning and wearable. Love her work and am so happy I

If you’re looking for a great nail professional, check out Hannah. This isn’t a cheap place where you’re in and out in 40 min and your nails last about that long. Hannah takes her time, really asks what you want and can even do artwork like you wouldn’t believe. My last manicure lasted almost four weeks without a single chip and I’m super hard on my nails.

I have been seeing SeAnn for a while now. She has transformed my hair. She focuses on the integrity of the hair, keeping my locks healthy. I have super dark hair and she has worked her magic to make me a cool blonde. The vibe of the salon is chill. Everyone is super friendly. I highly recommend any of the stylists as they all do great work.

Came to Colour Authority as a walk-in luckily one of their stylist had a cancellation and was able to fit me. I don't have a lot experience with getting my hair colored at salons. They made super easy and help me come to a decision on how what type of coloring I wanted. She also cut my hair like how I wanted. Not have gone to a hair salon in over two years, coming here was a great experience.

Had my nails done today by Hannah and they turned out so beautiful! This is my second time having her do my nails and I'm so glad I found someone who uses high quality products so my manicure lasts longer and looks great for days!!! Plus she makes you feel like you're really getting her full attention so you get what you want! I highly recommend getting your nails done here with Hannah!

Top of the line, quality salon. Aesthetically very nice, comfortable, and clean. Staff are very sweet. The staff at front desk was terrific. Everyone i encountered was professional, kind, and friendly. Shannon colored my hair and did a fantastic job. She is highly skilled. I hope to come back here when I return to Portland. I don't know a lot about color and my hair had been badly colored at a different salon. I went in thinking I wanted to match my roots to my brassy mess and they totally fixed the problem and rooted out my hair. My stylist took her time assessing my hair and even asked other stylists for a second opinion. My highlights went from looking white and faded to golden and my hair looks great now. It now matches my skin tone. I totally recommend this salon for girls with Asian hair. So excited

I have been going to this salon for at least 15 years, maybe longer! This place is amazing, they are hair magicians in there! I could sit in there all day and watch the transformations they perform! Everyone is so nice and down to earth too, from the owners, Tom and Denise to my stylist Annie! You won't ever go anywhere else once you've put your hair in their care! I get consistent compliments on my hair and always give all the credit where credit is due!!!

Alex G does an amazing job on hair extensions and color. I came to her through a recommendation from a co-worker and I'm glad I did. Before I found Alex I had been bouncing around between salons because my "go-to" gal moved to another city.

Where to start? This place is fantastic! I wanted to get my hair colored and had found this place based on reviews and proximity to where I live. A Colour Authority had wonderful reviews, something that eased my anxiety as someone who had never did a drastic hair change!
