My name is Chang Ho Yi and my wife's name is Hye Chong Yi. We are a husband and wife operated clothing alterations business located on Stevens Avenue in Portland, Maine. We are proud to serve our customers with the highest quality work and we make it our goal that you leave our shop completely satisfied. We welcome customers who need any kind of tailoring/alterations work no matter how minor or major the job is. We have been tailoring for many years so we have extensive experience with fixing all kinds of problems.
Services
I began tailoring in South, Korea in 1968. At the time, there was a large demand for custom made suits and dresses among the Korean upper class. I left the countryside at the age of 14 and moved to Seoul, Korea to become an apprentice tailor. After years of hard work and study, I had gained enough skill to be known in Korea as a Master Tailor.

Extremely polite people and very curtious. listened to what I wanted and was able to work with me to get the repair work done.
I had an old coat repaired. It had no monetary value, but the sentimental value made it priceless. I wanted to be 100% certain that I was going to get quality work done, so I went to the Sewing shop. He was able to expertly repair all of the worn areas of the coat. I HIGHLY recommend anyone to do business here. You definitely get what you pay for.

These very nice people took apart a sport coat I hadn't worn in years, resized it to reflect changes in my shape, relined it and hand-sewed the buttonholes, all for around four hundred dollars. Very cheap, when you compare that to the cost of a bespoke coat. And they had it ready in a month, on the day they had promised it.

Thank you so much for altering the costume for my performance in Bath. It was awesome! I ordered my dancing costume online. It was too small so I had to return it and order 1 size bigger. It came so big that all three parts had to be altered: the skirt, the belt, and the bra. I know that it was not easy, because of so many beads in it. You did a great job! Thanks a lot!

Alteration work here is worth every penny. They do amazing work. I've come in several times with dresses and skirts (including a couple of bridesmaid dresses that were way too big) that needed to be altered. They basically remade the dresses, and they fit like glove. It's important to provide adequate lead time because, depending on the work, it may take a few weeks.

I have been going to the Sewing Shop for many years for alterations and repairs such as zippers ect... Mr. and Mrs. Yi are AMAZING!!! He put a new zipper in my favorite winter coat and it actually looked BETTER than the factory one! He has hemmed all my daughters jeans and they look like they are off the store shelf! Mr Yi is very particular in his work. It is nothing short of perfection every time. I would recommend them to anyone who wants an excellent tailor!!

Absolutely fantastic work! I highly recommend the Sewing Shop. My husband tore the sleeve on a favorite houndstooth sport coat and I brought it in to see if it could be repaired. The owner did a beautiful job sewing it by hand, the pattern lines were matched precisely, and unless you knew the location of the original tear it's not detectable. Amazing craftsmanship!

I have taken various items of clothing to be altered and also too numerous to remember, pants to be shortened. The work here is excellent. My jeans don't look as if they have been shortened but have some right "off the rack." My favorite spring/summer/fall skirt was too big around the waist after I lost some weight, and they came up with a way of bringing the waist in without having to take the garment apart and which was much, much less expensive! I have 5 pair of winter pants that need to be shortened and will take them nowhere but the Sewing Shop on Stevens Avenue!!

I have taken suits, jeans, and jackets to Chang Ho Yi and Hye Chong Yi, and they have all turned out amazingly.
