Most single individuals believe they do not require any legal planning. However, if you have siblings, cousins or other loved ones, legal planning is important to ensure things are as easy for them as possible if and when something happens to you. You want to pass on what you have worked so hard for your entire life, and do it in a way that helps your loved ones know and feel your love just when they'll need to most.
Whether you have been together one year, two years or more (or less!), moving in together signifies a big step forward in your relationship. In the event of an emergency, when you are married, access to your partner's critical medical information is protected by the California Probate Code.
California Probate Code Section 4716(a) states, "If a patient lacks the capacity to make a health care decision, the patient's domestic partner shall have the same authority as a spouse has to make a health care decision for his or her incapacitated spouse."

When you are married with children, legal planning is usually pretty straightforward. You want your spouse making decisions for you if you are incapacitated, and you want to make sure your assets go to your spouse when you die, and then to your children after your spouse is gone. If only it was our probate courts wouldn't be clogged with the impact of the complexity of money and family.

Explaining to you how we're different requires an explanation of what the "traditional" experience with a lawyer is like. If you've worked with a lawyer to prepare estate planning documents for you in the past, this will sound familiar. During the traditional experience, you'll go in and meet with a lawyer who will oftentimes make things seem very complicated and confusing.

I chose Baron family law because my current lawyer was not the right fit and they were highly recommended. Both Alea and Alexandra listened to me and allowed me to steer the ship while they provided great advice and honest feedback. I was concerned that my status as a father would be hindered by the current situation but Alexandra made it clear that she would fight for my right as a father. They were very friendly, responded promptly to communications, and were overall just easy to work with. Luckily, my situation was handled faster than most, so I hope not to need a family law attorney again.

So I found myself in need of a Family Law Attorney and quick. I retained Baron Family Law and was able to get things going quick. I had never needed an attorney before and had no idea what I was doing.

I want to thank the highly esteemed team at Baron Family Law for helping me get custody of my daughter! The generally accepted consensus is that single Fathers may typically have a harder time gaining custody of children. I have hired several overpriced family law attorneys over the 5 years of my custody battle with little success. Needed a lawyer for a prenup. Alexandra Baron and her team were quick, efficient and very knowledgeable. All correspondence and scheduling (outside of the phone calls to discuss legal documents) was done via email, which I prefer.
