Sometimes in life we find ourselves staring up at a huge mountain wondering how we are ever going to get to the top. We may feel like turning back, like the path is too long and too difficult. Or we may not see a path at all and have no idea how to move forward. I often tell therapy clients that a therapist is like a guide who has climbed that mountain not only once but many, many times and with many people.
Someone who knows the best paths, where to stop and rest and where to push forward. Someone who can carry some of the load when you are tired and struggling. A good therapist can help you not only get to the top of that peak but learn along the way how to conquer the peaks that lie beyond. Psychotherapy has been shown to change levels of serotonin, the brain chemical involved in depression.

Services
Pre-marital counseling: 4-6 visits to map out your relationship dynamics, predict areas of potential future conflict and teach strategies to avert these conflicts and construct better skills for lifelong happiness. Partner counseling: for couples already committed who are either struggling from various wounds (infidelity, parenting conflicts, problems with families of origin, sexual issues, lack of trust, communication issues and more).
There is an abundance of research in psychology about which treatments work best for which problems. Dr. Jordan works carefully in the first 4 - 6 visits to establish a proper diagnosis and treatment plan which is then shared with you. Psychological testing can be used to help with diagnosis if desired.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder: constantly feeling anxious, worried, on edge, hard to relax, irritable. Worrying causes significant impairment in functioning in at least one area (at home, at work, socially, etc.). Social Anxiety: persistent fear of social or performance situations with unfamiliar people or possible scrutiny by others including fearing that one will act anxious or do something that will be embarrassing and humiliating.
While only a qualified mental health professional can actually diagnose a mental health problem, the following information can be used to help assess what general area you might be having difficulty with (please note that this is not a comprehensive listing of all depressive or psychiatric disorders and does not substitute for an evaluation by a mental health professional).
Cutting down: Have you ever felt you ought to cut down on your drinking, drug use or behavior (shopping, gambling, sex, eating)?. Eye-opener: Have you ever had a drink or used drugs first thing in the morning to stead your nerves or to get rid of a hangover? Or do you find yourself wanting to engage in a particular behavior, say online pornography or online shopping, first thing in the morning or to "start your day off"?.

Dr. Krista Jordan's post doctoral training has been a fantastic experience. Krista is an embodiment of life-long learning, and she instills the values of striving for improvement and continual self-reflection in all of her post docs. Krista's private practice has been thriving in Austin for over 20 years, and I was fortunate to have a full caseload within a few months of working with Krista. Her incredible depth of skill and knowledge spans from modern psychodynamic theory to PACT couples therapy, both of which have improved my skill as a clinician. Not only does Krista provide a rich supervision

Dr. Krista Jordan is an incredibly caring and skilled clinician, and I would recommend her to anyone seeking therapy, as well as to therapists seeking additional training. I worked with Dr. Jordan as a postdoctoral resident under her supervision from September 2017-January 2019, and am so appreciative of the guidance and knowledge she shared with me during that time. In terms of her work with clients, it is rare you see a therapist work with so much compassion, skill, knowledge, and flexibility. Dr. Jordan takes her responsibility to clients seriously, and it is inspiring to see the ways she goes

Dr. Jordan is a phenomenal psychologist! She was my postdoctoral supervisor for a year, and I learned so much from her. Dr. Jordan is an incredibly knowledgable and approachable therapist. She is particularly skilled with couples and working with attachment in adults. I recommend her very highly and look forward to continued collaboration with her!

I've been seeing Dr. Jordan for ten months and feel that she mixes equal parts neurological and behavioral research with genuine human warmth. Dr. Jordan offers me two types of therapy. Firstly, a traditional psychological approach based around an intellectual analysis of my problems. Secondly, an right-brained approach where a safe space is provided for me to feel uncomfortable emotions. This latter component has improved my life significantly, in terms of my personal and professional success.

I saw Dr. Jordan several years ago and felt like she was able to facilitate important changes for me in my life that I would not have made otherwise. I understand myself better and am aware of ingrained processes that tempt me to deviate from a path leading to happiness. But the most important thing I have learned through therapy is to trust my own intuition about my needs. I really appreciated how it was not just a job to her and all of her patience and kindnesses.

I called Dr. Jordan's office and was pleased to find out that she offers a free initial consultation. When I saw her Dr. Jordan made sure that every single question I had was answered. She also let me know that she was available if I thought of any more questions I wanted answered. She was clear that in her profession there are no guarantees but after talking to her I really felt hope that therapy would help. She explained all the risks and benefits of my treatment options, not only the ones that she provides. Everything was explained in detail, all my questions were answered, and I felt a lot

In praise of Dr. Krista Jordan, I can think of no better words than these ...
We gladly make the drive from Houston to Austin to meet with Krista for our Couples Counseling sessions!
A relationship that has survived for more than 14 years, in spite of many near-death experiences, is worth the effort (and the drive!) to save. The two of us ... as smart as she is and I only wish I were ... had no clue as to why we kept finding our loving relationship heading toward a cliff, over and over again.
We finally decided ... maybe it's not too late to see if there is anybody out there who knows

After going through numerous therapists of varing levels of certification, we were lucky enough to find Dr. Jordan. She is absolutely awesome! Her approach is comfortable and logical and she is great at helping you delve into the issues to get to resolution without judgement. She changed our lives! And I will always be thankful for what I have learned and how I have grown as a result of my time working with her!
