SWERVE Studio
This studio is so female friendly to all shapes, sizes and athletic ability. The classes are fun and sweaty with a mix of dance, stretching and sometimes weights. The music is always fun, the teachers enthusiastic, and you will leave feeling warm and fuzzy from the kind words of encouragement and good intention!
Services
SWERVE is a group studio for fitness, dance, yoga and meditation alongside a training gym. It was founded in 2001 by best friends and fitness experts, Gillian Marloth Clark and Teigh McDonough Gilson, as a workout home for everyday people who like to dance, move and be fit. In those days, SWERVE was a one-room studio and epicenter of the fitness craze, Yoga Booty Ballet the #1 selling workout DVD of its generation.
We would like to extend our warmest welcome to you as a new member of our SWERVE community. SWERVE is an inclusive, generous community of the heart, fostering a non-competitive atmosphere that allows each person to feel comfortable and be themselves. Our instructors will exercise your mind, body, and spirit.
The only schools I steer trainees away from are ones that don't focus on asanas (body postures), like Kundalini (this is an experienial school, which I teach in depth in the training) Kriya (a devotional school) etc. Check out any yoga studio near you and ask for a list of the types of yoga they teach.
YBB teachers are tried and true, full of energy, desire to serve and guide, and ready to lead you on a transformative journey. Licensed instructors go through extensive practical training and academic investigation to earn and retain their certifications, including studying within the YBB Teacher Training, CPR certification and additional yoga training and review.

I love swerve! Once again, post baby number two, Amanda's core cardio crunch classes, with their mix of HIT style cardio, light but high rep weights, yoga & pilates moves has helped me lose the baby weight! Since I started doing her online classes, I've lost over 12 pounds, have well defined arms, toned legs and my ab's are coming up. I've recently started to incorporate Christa's Triple A classes to further increase my fitness. Im already back in my pre-pregnancy jeans but keen to look my very best yet!

I've been going here for years and am so grateful for the camaraderie it has offered, while providing workouts that challenge me in a way that keep me engaged and wanting to come back for more. I've not taken all the teachers classes, but most. And, in finding the teachers who 'speak' to my needs for a workout, they are incredible! Gillian has taken away my lifelong tummy pooch. You know I must love them to admit that on a public forum. Can't go wrong.

This studio is incredible! It is a neighborhood gem!!! I moved away from this neighborhood and missed this workout studio terribly. With The shut downs due to COVID they put their classes on Zoom. If you want an incredible mix of dance/ballet/yoga try Krista Ramirez Yoga Booty Ballet (YBB) class. She is very encouraging and upbeat. The time goes by quickly and I feel very happy afterwards. If you want more of a toning class try her Triple A or Bands and Bar classes. They are fantastic too!
Another amazing YBB teacher is Lorene C. Her classes are high energy. She has great music and afterwards I

This community is alive and thriving even in these troubled times! I so look forward to connecting with the Swerve teachers through their virtual classes until we're able to dance again in person. Lorene is a ray of light - her energy is infectious! I'm so grateful to this women-powered community of dancers. Highly recommend!

The only reason for four stars is that I can't speak to the entire studio. I'm visiting from out of town and took the worldbeat work out with Kim Blank on a Saturday morning. Heaven! That definitely gets five stars! Kim makes it such fun to get such a great work out. I don't perspire easily and I was sweating which made me very very happy. Lately I've been having joint pain and "lumpy thighs" after just one session all of that went away! Now I know the key to my aches and pains is MOVING. I wish I could take her back home with me. Kim is so upbeat and the whole

Amazing classes and instructors. I wish the studio had a location on the west side near Santa Monica or in Mar Vista.

This place is such a warm and welcoming studio. I shot a commercial and rented this place on Peerspace but I loved my experience so much that I had to come here to review it. Gillian, one of the founders, was such an extremely helpful, bright, fun, and amazing person. The studio was in pristine condition. Great natural light, fans on every corner of the room to keep it cool especially after a hard workout, and very vibrant. If I'm ever in the area I'd love to come to take a class for fun. I will also definitely rent it again if I need it for a film/commercial.

The city of Angels best kept work out dance studio SWERVE truly is INCREDIBLE. Combining dance, groove and yoga in a terrific location and beautiful space.... my fav instructor HEIDI James is (Wednesday evening at 7:30pm) a great motivator with awesome music helping to release the days stress and ROCK THE BOOTY into shape. I also appreciate the soulful connection Heidi brings into the evening of working out and dancing...One particular week I was in a very sad place and when I left I felt literally healed. Heidi, thank you! HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!

This humble and down to earth studio will surprise you with its amazing classes! Yoga booty ballet with Kristin Stanley was phenomenal and I can't wait to go back! Swerve's wide appeal to all ages and abilities became even more apparent when I ran into 2 colleagues at the YBB class - they were equally surprised to see me, a distance runner, trying out the dance moves - loved it! Reserve ahead because these classes fill up. Thank you Swerve and see you again soon!

My girlfriend had been going here for years to take the Yoga, Booty, Ballet (YBB) class and I had always wanted to join her. She recently got certified, herself to become an instructor. It was her first month of teaching and I couldn't wait until I got back in town so I could take her YBB class. It was everything I wanted! It's a great fusion of spirituality, meditating and centering yourself, hip-hop dancing, ballet dancing, yoga, and stretching at the end. In one hour you get a full workout and you feel amazing when you're done. Lorene or "LoLo" is the instructor in which

If you ever wonder why your "favorite workout place" has closed it's doors it's likely because the owner/staff don't continually strive to make clients welcome. With that said, search no more and head straight to Swerve. I have been a member for over 5 years and many of the other clients that attend classes with me have been coming to Swerve A LOT
longer. This studio/staff is high energy and welcoming to all. While I have my favorites (Jesse, Krista, Amanda) I can attest that every instructor I've worked out with has been great. The studio is very close to my home

AMAZING classes! The Booti yoga ballet class blew my mind, the instructor was open, fun and welcoming. I would get a membership if it were more affordable and if you offered cheaper plans for fewer classes.

SWERVE is an all-inclusive, women-friendly workout space that made me feel warm and welcome from the moment I walked into my first class, Kardio Krunk taught by the inimitable Jeffrey La Rosa Adams. I highly recommend this class to anyone who loves to freak out to pop music but has been scared off by the challenging choreography of traditional dance classes. It's safe to say this class changed my whole outlook on group fitness and my dancing ability. It's that fun!
Other classes I've taken at Swerve have been just as awesome- Funk Fitness and Core Cardio Crunch to name a few standouts

Swerve is a great place. It has a community feel and is respectful of its clients. Teachers are focused and are aware of student's needs. They often modify exercises to meet students individual needs. I feel that teachers really care about the people in the classes that they teach. It is a positive atmosphere and it feels like you belong. The meditation classes are great. Students are welcomed, are taught meditation strategies and one's work is reinforced positively. I love going to Swerve!

My star off is that while they have revamped half their gym, the studio room has old - and smelly, mats and equipment. Also no complimentary water kills me! I always forget to bring money in and the classes are wayyy too hot to go an entire class without a water

This review is for the Kardio Krunk class with Jeffrey.
It was great!
Online reservation was super easy and the ladies who checked me in were super sweet and welcoming.
Now to the class, the music was good and current. Jeffrey was full of energy, engaging, encouraging and fun! His cueing was great and his choreography evenly worked the left and right sides. At the end of the class we were all happily sweaty, plus we had all had fun. I highly recommend.

I really liked this class. Parking was a little tricky on a Saturday morning but worth the trouble. Class was encouraging and motivational and left me feeling ready to take on the world by the end of class. I took the YBB class but one of the instructors couldn't make it. I would like to try t again with two instructors next time. Class was fun, it felt like a group of friends being silly together and dancing without a care in the world. Very friendly crowd! Three stars because of parking (not their fault) and not as much of a workout as I would have liked but that could be my own fault.

I'm a Sorel fan. I saw her name and recognized it from Pilates Plus in Silverlake. She is GREAT. She's been in fitness 8 years, I believe. Her body is banging, the kind of body that you strive for, but don't actually achieve because genetically, I/we are not that 1%.

I love the way she teaches though. Very direct. She demonstrates and verbalizes everything she wants you to do. And it'll kick your @$$.

Personally, I don't like Pilates mat classes, but Swerve has additional cushions/mats. I can't wait to take other classes because I hear great things. Looking forward

I was drawn to this studio because of their Yoga Booty Ballet class and this review is based solely on this class. The Yoga Booty class name is very misleading and should probably change its name. Unfortunately, the class left me really dissatisfied. The low-impact class itself consisted of probably 5% yoga and the remaining 95% of choreographed dancing. The only yoga portions of the class was the beginning and cool down. There were some elements of ballet in it. Also, some people were barefoot and others wore shoes.

Aside from this class, Swerve is divided into two rooms. One room is the

Gillian is a dear and I would be remiss to leave out that her YBB certification is one of the most enjoyable experiences. Check it out!
