Services
Children are not just small adults. They present with unique problems and require distinct management and treatment. Visual development occurs up until approximately age 9. Diagnosis of ocular disease must occur at an early age to avoid permanent visual deficits. Even intermittent or asymptomatic conditions can damage the visual system and must be addressed during childhood.
As the oldest girl in a family of 10 kids, I have always been comfortable with children. Caring for them comes naturally for me, and I am perfectly at ease during all parts of the eye exam. Children are not just small adults, and I like to interact with them on their level. You can find me balancing siblings on one knee, wiping noses and examining stuffed animals on a daily basis.
Dr Armanious is a comprehensive optometrist with 7 years of experience caring for children and patients of all ages here in Jacksonville. She treats strabismus, amblyopia, refractive error - failed vision screenings and specializes in contact lenses. She is wonderful and we are so happy to have her on board!
At Pediatric Eye Consultants of North Florida, we utilize new technological advances to make our office more efficient and effective. We are a paperless practice, with a cloud based electronic health records system that allows patients easy access to their records and the ability to view results, upload demographics and health record changes and communicate with office staff and physicians directly.
Vision screening successfully identifies children with visual impairment or risk factors for poor visual development and allows for prompt diagnosis and treatment. Vision screening should be performed throughout childhood, with age appropriate methods. It may be performed by pediatricians, nurses, technicians or lay volunteer groups.

We are forever grateful to Dr. Duss! Our son was seen numerous times by other Ophthalmologists who only treated the symptoms of his eye issues. Dr. Duss immediately knew what we were dealing with and helped map out a treatment plan to prevent future infections. From Annie’s 1st steps, after receiving an eye patch, through surgery, to her last visit before our move Dr. Dawn Duss and her team have been THE BEST!!!! Each visit they continued to show professionalism,… dedication, and lots of fun treating our little munchkin (now young girl). I can’t thank them enough for helping our family in so many ways. Dr. Duss me with me before Thanksgiving offering me surgery to correct my adult strabismus or what I call my lazy eye. December 4th I had surgery. I’ve had my post op appt a week out and a 6 week follow up. I am now almost 3 months post op and the difference is incredible. The surgery was painless. The surgery center staff was all very nice. Her office staff is always so friendly and efficient, as is Dr. Duss. I’ve never waited more than a few mins in the lobby, the appts have all been quick. Let me start off by saying how incredibly grateful we are to have found Dr. Duss. We knew our daughter needed strabismus surgery, we were seeing someone for the past 2 1/2 years and just couldn’t make that… leap. When no other pediatric ophthalmologist wants to see my son asap, Dr. Duss took time to review his case. She then had her secretary call me right away, and saw my son that afternoon. Everything was set up smoothly including the surgery. The wait time in her office is also very minimal and sometimes none. She knows that children are very impatient so she sees her patient without too much BS. I am still very thankful to her up to this day for saving my sons vision.

I had my initial visit consultation with Dr. Duss a few weeks ago. Dr Duss & her staff are the ultimate professionals. Knowledgeable, caring, and even comical when needed. It was a very emotional visit for me and they were understanding & reassuring. Im looking forward to Dr. Duss working her magic on my eyes. So that I may live a better quality of life.
