Have you just started a new business? Did you know expenses incurred before a business begins operations are not allowed as current deductions? Generally, these start up costs must be amortized over a period of 180 months beginning in the month in which the business begins. However, based on the current tax provisions, you may elect to deduct up to $5,000 of business start-up and $5,000 of organizational costs paid or incurred.

Charitable Giving - Instead of selling your appreciated long-term securities, donate the stock instead and avoid paying tax on the unrealized gain while still getting a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value.

Michael and his staff have done my taxes for many years. I receive my packet to review changes and fill it in and send it with my W2s to them. I get a call to schedule an appointment, either by phone or in person and in usually less than an hour, Michael has what he needs to complete my return. They send out the finalized tax forms, with copies, for me to me to sign and I mail it to the IRS. The return comes and I am a happy camper!!! Very organized and professional!!!

Another year and another great experience with CPA Medkiff and associates! I have people always telling me how cheap their tax guys is and I ask them if they ever compare their services with other tax preparers. Usually the answer is no, so I never understand how they come to believe they are getting a good deal with taxes. If I pay a higher price for a qualified and experienced CPA and I get back a larger return (or pay less taxes) in aggregate, including the cost of the service, I am get a better bang for my buck with Medkiff. He's smart and his large staff is available when he gets tied

Being on the road most of the year, taxes are difficult to deal with, but since I started using Michael Medkiff I have far less to worry about. I usually set up a phone appointment for the final tax prep. If I have questions, either Michael or one of his staff gets me an answer very quickly. I now have enough confidence in my relationship with this firm that am recommending him to my friends who need help with their taxes too.

I used a standard tax preparer for many years and it cost between $250-350. I didn't realize what a difference a top CPA could make until a friend suggested I try Medkiff.
It's like having gone to a pharmacist for medical advice and finally finding a good doctor. The amount of knowledge and experience is well worth the cost when I get my return. Also, the ease and efficiency makes it that much more worth it. I've been recommending Michael to all of my friends.

I have been coming to Michael for years, and every year I leave his office feeling very confident about my taxes. He is extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of taxes as well as financial advice. After leaving messages for Michael Midkiff and his staff for weeks I finally got a return phone call! It was at 8.45 am the morning after I posted my Yelp review. Sharing my experiences of working with Michael Midriff on Yelp is what got him to have one of the girls in his office call me.

Very difficult to get on the phone, on 3 visits to his office, he kept us waiting in the waiting room for over an hour ( with an appt), seems preoccupied with other clients, not always prepared on the spot, very slow response, and call back.
Overall his attitude was boastful and cocky, and I'm not sure why?

Wow after reading the other responses I wonder if they were talking about some else. My experience was awful. He didn't seem there and it was very uncomfortable to be around him. He came as a referral other wise I would have walked out. I was audited and when that happened he wasn't any where around. When he was it was an odd experience. He just didn't seem like he was there. His office always gave me comments that lead me to believe there were issues out side the office. I went to another accountant to take care of the audit and don't want anything more to do with Michael

I have to second everything I've been reading here about my tax guy. I had a little issue with my accountant about 11 years ago and a friend recommended I call Michael. At first the sticker shock of the cost to hire him was palpable. But then we started working on my taxes and I realized that he was the right guy. He knows what he's doing. And this has been proven over and over again as the type of business I'm in fluctuates so wildly and is so volatile. What you will save and learn and benefit far outweighs the cost. I was referred to Michael Medkiff several years ago by a dear friend. Michael is extremely helpful. Michael has been my accountant since 1986 ... he's the best. Even when I moved to New York, I kept him as my tax guy and we did everything over the phone and Fedex. Now I live in San Francisco (he helped me with the decision to move back to CA) and I still use him. I can't imagine using anyone else. When he retires, I'll retire...

Expensive and well worth it, as they savings on your tax bill will pay for his fee many times over. Everyone I have sent him, stays with him for life.
Been doing my return 20 years. I've had good CPAs offer to do my taxes free (on trade) and I stick with Michael.
He is best for anyone making over $100k a year, or if you have a tax problem.
