East Bay Wilds
We are located at 2777 Foothill Blvd - the corner of 28th Ave and Foothill, but the entrance is on 28th Ave. Feel free to park inside our parking area if there is room. East Bay Wilds accepts cash, checks or Paypal as payment, but we don't take credit cards - sorry! East Bay Wilds is both a nursery and a full service native landscape company.

Although we have a pretty long wait list for new clients, Pete can look at photos of your site, ask some questions and make excellent recommendations at the nursery when it is open. In addition to a huge assortment of California native plants, we also sell garden tchotchkes - garden benches, tables, chairs, statues, planters, antiques for sale at great prices.
Services
East Bay Wilds began as a small gardening service called 'Pete's Gardens' in 2004. Pete had reached a point where his 17 years in social services both in the USA and throughout Latin America was no longer cuttin' the mustard. Exploring our remaining wild places and gardening with native plants have been passions [obsessions?] of his since he was a youngster.
We design/build decks, patios, fences, arbors, trellises etc. for homes of all types. We do all types of stone and tile work, but our specialty is dry-laid [no mortar/permeable] stonework. We strive to match the current style of the home in a manner which is regionally and climatically appropriate in order to meet the homeowner's desires.
A: We are open to the public every Friday from 9:30 to 4:00. If you have a fairly large order and cannot make it on Friday, call Pete around 3 in the afternoon to see if he can meet with you after work. His phone number is 510-409-5858. Occasionally we have special sales and open nursery days on other days of the week.

A quirky oasis of native plants that feels distinctly East Bay in the best possible DIY way. It's rewarding to garden with native plants since they attract, feed and house native wildlife.

Anyone you ask here shares this love and gives their gives detailed honest answers based on experience. It's basically the owners inventory of plants they use for landscaping. Only downside is that the hours are erratic, but then again that adds to the charm of feeling like you've found a secret garden heaven.

If you need plants with specific local provenance information (for example, for habitat restoration), with cultural information, I would recommend TILDEN NATIVE HERE nursery. Currently (20/21), Tilden is preparing orders placed online for pick-up, which is a time-saver. The Tilden website includes an excellent search function, eg: by habitat, color, bee/butterfly/hummingbird friendly, sun/shade/ dry, and much more. Tilden's plants are locally-sourced natives; sold with this provenance information; their inventory is large; they are a good resource if you are doing  habitat gardening or restoration

The selection of plants is astounding! The staff is thoughtful and knowledgeable. The prices are the lowest in the Bay Area, but that is just a bonus. I really come here for the best plants! Pete is the Manzanita and native plant container expert. And they always have super cool rare plants that I can't find anywhere else. Did I mention fun?

Pete and his team did a GREAT job on re-landscaping our front and back yards. CA natives we planted 25 years ago had gotten away from us and Pete knew exactly how restore and vastly improve upon our original landscape design. We could not be happier with the work done by East Bay Wilds!

Got a couple natives. They have California natives but many if not most are not locally native to the bay area so people should be mindful of that. Nice selection though. They could have been more helpful with what I wanted (local natives for containers that will flower and seed in container), i got 2 recommendations but then they attended to something else and seemed busy with tasks so I only asked once. Cute place. I think they're focused on landscaping and the nursery is secondary. Check native here nursery or watershed nursery for strictly local natives.

I'm new to California natives and have been slowly reworking my yard. I was extremely pleased by the selection and variety available at East Bay Wilds Native Plant Nursery. I did a little research ahead of time and found their online inventory (a google doc), easy to navigate, and when I arrived, the knowledgeable staff helped me find just what I was looking for. I took note of plants I hadn't heard of before, and have had fun learning about native plants. Will definitely be back!

Great selection of Native plants ( use website / google doc to check inv.)
Location and parking made for a sad panda.

Dropped in on a Friday, they have a pretty good selection of plants. They have some very hard to find stuff in stock, so you can forgive some of the plants being on the puny side. They carry plants, some growing media fertilizer, and a Creative/eclectic selection of plant pots.

The owner of East Bay Wilds was very responsive to my native plant question. Appreciate that he often participates in the CA Native Plant Society events, helping to educate others. Prices are among the best around for native plants, and online inventory list is very easy to use. Unique offerings at this nursery!

The staff at East Bay Wilds know everything about California native plants and they are fantastic to work with. Pete designed our front and back yards and I absolutely love the result. I spend at least 1-2 hours in the yard every day now enjoying all of the flowers and wildlife. I didn’t know how many native bees there were, and I love all the different types of bumble bees. I’ve had new types of birds that visit too. It’s given me such joy! I highly recommend East Bay Wilds!!!

Great assortment of native Californian plants. The prices seem very fair compared to other nurseries as well. The people who work their really know their stuff.
I really like walking through their example garden for inspiration.
During COVID they supplied gloves which I thought was very considerate :)

Well cared-for inventory. Check inventory list online to get a rough idea of what they have but call ahead if you need a very specific plant. I had no issues with parking and pulled into driveway to load. Small demonstration garden will give you an idea of some of the plants when mature. Knowledgeable staff and fellow patrons make it a fun experience. Prices are reasonable.

Lots of great plants and Pete is a knowledgeable guy. But, you have to be specific about what you want done, how much you want to spend, where you want and don't want plants to go otherwise he'll show up with a truck load of plants of his choosing and stick them in every bare spot he can find. We had to stop him from tearing out thriving non-native plants so he can put a few more of his in the ground. He put in many dozens of plants in our large yard and we ended up moving about a third of them to pots or better locations with better soil because they were dying due to being planted

I reached out to Pete because I received a grant to plant native plants in a nearby patch of dirt. Pete was super accommodating to my schedule and even drove me to the site where the plants were going to be planted in order to select the best plants for the spot. He wrote out detailed instructions about which plants should go where, which helped our planting become a success! I would definitely go back and appreciate his support of our neighborhood project!

This nursery is amazing! I was looking for a particular native plant and this is the only nursery that I know of that carries it. I found so much more when I visited. The first thing I thought of when I arrived was that this place is more like a work of art than a nursery. It is beautiful! The staff was extremely inviting and eager to help me. They answered all my questions and gave me clever planting and artistic tips. I'm already having withdrawal symptoms..I gotta go back!

East Bay Wilds is my go to place for CA natives! They have the best selection of Manzanitas, Ceanothus, and so many hard to find rarities, that I always leave with more healthy beauties than I had on my list. Bonus - Pete and Suzanne are knowledgeable and full of gardening tips, as well as honest feedback on what will and will not work in your space.

Awesome natives nursery!! I came in with a rough sketch and a list of plants. Pete took the time to look over my sketch and list of plants and helped me completely re-design my plan--such excellent personal service.

Most impressive--after spending nearly an hour working with Pete on my plant design I realized I failed to check ahead of time if he took credit cards. Pete said not to worry and that I could simply drop off a check tomorrow to pay for the plants.

If you are native plant person you need to know about this place. Reasonably priced native California plants are here. Pete is very knowledgeable about plants. Can be flaky but this is his place. Parking can be a problem especially on the weekends. In the heart of Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland. It's wonderful & gardening inspired.

At the height of the drought a couple years ago I had a backyard that was a mish mash of overgrown and thirsty plants and grass . Pete and his team replaced the entire collection with California natives. He also created slate and stone paths branching out from my patio adding a needed aesthetic touch. I was so happy with the results I had him replace my front yard last year, also with California natives. The results were equally pleasing and satisfying. His knowledge of the plants is incredible. His estimates for time and schedule were accurate. His team was very thorough and a pleasure to

Pete and his crew transformed my weed-choked backyard filled with bricks and boards into an oasis. After the consultation, I was given a price which did not change. Since I was clueless about landscaping, I left it in Pete's hands and was not disappointed. They did the work quickly and efficiently and in four days I was looking out on a beautiful landscape filled with 24 native plants. Thank you for restoring my backyard!

Seems like a beautiful place but they have started putting up caution tape outside their property with signs asking people to not park there and that they will be towed. Hm, seemed fishy since the street is public property, and it's usually a hassle to do this and it's been happening every weekend. I asked the owner to see his permit to block parking and tow people. He said he doesn't have a permit, but otherwise customers won't park and come in "bc they're scared of the neighborhood". He said, since I know that now, I can park where the caution tape is. "
