SOCAPA, the School of Creative and Performing Arts, is one of the premier visual and performing arts summer camps for teens, ages 13 to 19, in the world. Nowhere else will you find this level of creative intensity combined with this much fun. Whether you are acting in a film along Lake Champlain, dancing in a hip-hop video under the Brooklyn Bridge, or conducting a fashion shoot on Venice Beach, you're sure to have the summer of a lifetime.

SOCAPA mixes the best of elite film programs and exciting summer camps. Nowhere else will you find this level of filmmaking intensity combined with this much fun. Filmmakers and writers of all levels can also hone their skills in one of our Screenwriting intensives.
Services
SOCAPA was founded by a small collective of New York artists in Greenwich Village in 2001, and has quickly become one of the premier visual and performing arts programs for young people in the world. Our students travel from across the United States and all corners of the globe to participate in our Summer Intensives.
SOCAPA mixes the best of elite film programs and exciting summer camps. Nowhere else will you find this level of filmmaking intensity combined with this much fun. We currently offer six different filmmaking intensives for students ages 13-18. For new students, we recommend the Core Filmmaking Program - our most popular intensive!
Core Filmmaking is SOCAPA's most popular summer film camp intensive. Equivalent to a college level introduction to filmmaking course, Core Filmmaking is a fun, hands-on introduction to narrative filmmaking that challenges students to write, directs and edit their own films. Each young filmmaker also has the opportunity to work as a Director of Photography, Sound Technician, or Production Assistant as they crew on their classmates' films.
SOCAPA's Advanced Filmmaking intensive is the next step after our Core Filmmaking program and is geared towards students with prior filmmaking experience. The program is competitive and requires applicants to submit at least one completed film or video project and a short film treatment (story idea) for review during our selection process.
SOCAPA offers one, two and three week intensives in screenwriting. Students will have the option to develop two short screenplays (4-8 pages each), one longer screenplay (10-12 pages), or the first act of a feature-length screenplay.

The course is designed to serve as a precursor to our filmmaking workshops with the idea that students will go on to produce and direct the screenplays that they write in this course during a SOCAPA filmmaking session later in the summer or the following year. The two week screenwriting intensive provides students with the time, structure, feedback, and theory to hone their writing skills with a particular focus on story and character development.

As an acting student, I loved it! Working with the student filmmakers was a great experience and really taught me a lot. The headshots that the student photographers took of the actors were also very great. SOCAPA definitely taught me some tips that I still use all the time. I will say however, that the acting classes weren’t what I was expecting, they weren’t exactly what was advertised as far as working with techniques goes. The activities were also a little unorganized but overall I recommend.

I had a fantastic time at socapa photography boot camp! We explored all the great sights in new york city, we went to the botanical gardens, photographed the brooklyn bridge at night, and had great adventures at coney island. I made great friends and memories, that I will remember for years to come!

I had an amazing time at Socapa. I took the two week filmmaking course and it was amazing. I knew nothing about filmmaking when I first came, but it quickly became my passion. The teachers are amazing and the equipment is top notch.

SOCAPA NYC is a terrific program. My daughter loved every minute of her three-week core acting program. She learned so much about acting and filmmaking, and she got to work with exceptionally talented, motivated, creative teachers and students in a supportive atmosphere. She now has friends from all over the country and the world, and can't wait to come back next summer!
