Cedar Hills Kindergarten & Preschool
Our cooperative learning community brings together children, parents, and teachers in meaningful play. We develop collaborative relationships and explore environments, experiences, and activities that encourage curiosity and wonder. We value who children are, celebrate their unique gifts, believe in their capabilities, encourage their interests, and honor their feelings and ideas.

When your child walks into our school, they are free to explore and create in classrooms that are alive with possibility. We provide an experience that nurtures core values such as kindness, friendship and compassion. Creative opportunities in the classroom, garden and playground inspire young spirits.

Cedar Hills Kindergarten & Preschool (formerly Cedar Hills Cooperative Kindergarten & Preschool) opened in 1951 at its current location at the corner of Cedar Hills Boulevard and Park Way. Cedar Hills Kindergarten & Preschool is a parent operated, not for profit school and is a member of the Parent Child Preschools of Oregon (PCPO) and Parent Cooperative Preschools International (PCPI).
Cedar Hills Kindergarten & Preschool maintains a contact list for those families interested in enrolling their child in the school. New families can be added to our contact list at any time by signing up on the school website, or by emailing the registrar. Each January the registration process for the following school year begins with Parent Information Night (PIN).
CHKP has helped ready hundreds of children for a lifetime of learning since 1951! Support from CHKP parents, grandparents, alumni and the surrounding community is a vital part of our continued success. As a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit, donations made to our school directly support our educational programs and teachers in their efforts to provide the most supportive and creative early childhood education possible.
We know that children learn best at this age by doing. They are explorers actively interested in learning about the world around them and constructing new understanding through experimentation and play. We support this by providing classrooms with engaging learning environments.

These include: dramatic play, writing workshop, art studio, painting easels, sensory tables, woodworking, science inquiry, block building, loft, light zone, reading nook, obstacle course, cooking center, outdoor playground, and garden.Equipment and materials are flexible and open ended to encourage individual choice and critical thinking.
Linda Romanowski is a masterful sculptor of learning environments for children that offer rigorous academic opportunities within a playful context. She listens intently to the ideas and passions of children, brings these ideas together in collaborative inquiry, and builds scaffolds that differentiate instruction to meet the needs of every child.

This is a gem of a place. Filled with magic and thoughtfulness and community. We sent my son here when he was three. We moved and I cried because we couldn't stay at a place that had become so dear. I still have relationships with the other moms and we see each other often. The teachers are incredible and so thoughtful about teach small humans how to resolve conflict and in turn, we as parent learn so much about how to love our children better. The kids focus on play, art and lots of outside time. It's worth every penny and more and I wish we could have stayed. Crossing my fingers for

I cannot say enough praises for CDKP. In all honesty, we chose this school because it was on of the most inexpensive ones in our area plus it was near our home. I'm so glad we chose this school! My son attended CHKP for the 3's PM class and our teacher was Teacher Julie. The school focuses strongly on play based learning, problem solving and conflict resolution. As a former educator myself, these skills are the foundation to academics and being a part of a group or community. To say that my energetic and non-stop son has thrived would be an understatement. I have seen him flourish and

In 2016 when we moved to the area we knew we wanted a parent-teacher cooperative learning experience for our daughter and hoped to find a school that offered a learning philosophy that encouraged exploration, creativity & kindness. We wanted a play-based school, as learning should be fun and engaging.

We toured a few cooperative preschools and while the others seemed to offer similar learning philosophies there didn't seem to be as much focus on creating a community as CHKP offered. We felt this was important, as our daughter was only 3. Through summer play-dates she was able to meet

We are about to start our fifth year at CHKP and I am still amazed at how lucky we are to be here. My children have attended the 3s, 4s and kindergarten program and I highly recommend all three. The parent teaching model not only ensures a great child to adult ratio, but it also meant that I got the opportunity to learn different approaches to dealing with behaviors and situations. I actually heard about this school from a friend whose nieces went here (one who is currently a sophomore in college) and the recommendation still holds true today.

My daughters have both attended this preschool and the Kindergarten and it has been a wonderful experience for not only them but for me as well. By parent teaching in the classroom you get the opportunity to be there with your little one watching as they learn and grow!

I could not imagine my sons Kindergarten year being much better than it was. Teacher Linda is very amazing. This schools allows you to take a very active roll in your childs education and be in the classroom with them 3-4 times a month. This really opens your eyes to the way that your child acts at school, for us it was completely night and day. It really allowed me to adjust the way that I teach at home. Linda really goes all out and helps your child learn, my son has come so far. I would recommend this school to anyone who wants to be active in their child's learning.

I want a third child just to go through the whole experience again with the school, the teachers, and this community! This upcoming last year with my daughter will be so bittersweet, yet I am so excited for the new naturescape playground and all that has yet to come. Not only have my kids learned from being here, so have I. Sigh...it's going to so bittersweet!! This last year!! I can't recommend this preschool more...!

My family has been part of this school for a number of years (4 children have gone thru this school), so many things to say about what Parents and Children get out of it; can't list them all here, but here's a start:
- Small class sizes which allow typically 1 adult for every 3-4 children in a class EVERY DAY, giving lots of 1:1 learning experiences and ability for teachers to customize instruction for each child
- school is a community of Parents who actively help each other and all the children
- Children learn not only the basic skills, but also how to SOLVE their own problems/challenges

I have a child currently enrolled at CHKP and one who has graduated to Elementary School. The school's emergent, play-based curriculum and strong community have been a gift for our entire family. Having several adults in the classroom creates a wonderfully nurturing experience for little ones. My kids are resilient, compassionate, self-motivated learners who truly enjoy exploring and learning about their world. I'm so glad we've been a part of this school!

My daughter just completed her first year at the school; what an incredible experience for our entire family! We toured 4 different preschools before selecting this one...it was far and above superior to the others. The teaching staff is AMAZING!! Check it out - if you want to be a part of your child's early education then this is the school for you!

This is our second year in CHPK. The teachers have taught for over 15 and are amazing. The school is play based. For example, we practice learning how to write names by signing up for appointments at different stations around the school. We are going back for kindergarten. My kids love going to school.

If you want to be involved with your child's fist learning experiences in a classroom this is the place to be. Parent participation is mandatory, this not a drop off daycare kind of place. This is the best thing that me and my wife could have done for our boys and what a learning experience it is for the parents.

Our family is in it's second year at Cedar Hills Kindergarten and Preschool, and how lucky are we that our oldest will be starting Kindergarten next year and the year after, our youngest will start preschool! We cannot say enough about the great experience our daughter, and our family as whole, have had at CHKP! It is very satisfying to know that our daughter is being encouraged to explore and learn about the world around her using what kids (and adults) do best...play!
Sending your children "off to school" for the first time can be such daunting milestone as parents. Yet, CHKP

My daughter has been at Cedar Hills Kindergarten and Preschool for three years now and has bloomed. Everyone is so caring and sensitive to the needs of each idividual child. I was so happy to have another parent tell me joyfully about my shy daughter vocalizing an all out yell in class that when heard by teacher and parent teacher was celebrated as a small victory for a shy quiet child instead of being stifled as a wrong.

A father's perspective: I LOVE this school.

First, I should tell you, I am a logic-driven, relatively stoic, engineer/computer geek and not a particularly touchy-feely kind of person. While I have always had an active role in parenting my two small children, my wife and I generally follow the classic gender roles - my wife is the primary care giver and I am the go-to disciplinarian. Given this context...

I am now a total convert to the parent-teacher cooperative learning philosophy. While my wife does most of the parent teaching, I genuinely look forward to the opportunities that I get

A great school and a great experience. The teachers are all wonderful and the community is fantastic. Lots of opportunities to explore different interests, art mediums, and experiences. In a co-op parents have a job (there are lots of options based on your interests and/or time availability), and help out in the classroom a few times a month. It's a great chance to see what your kids are doing at school! You get to know the other parents in the class, and siblings think it's their school, too. There are community building activities for the whole family, like making winter crafts, summer
