Rotier's Restaurant
A big bowl of chili smothered with melted cheddar cheese and onions and served with grilled French bread. Freshly grilled chicken over mixed greens with shredded cheddar, tomato, and fresh veggies. Choice of corned beef or turkey breast piled high on seedless rye bread between swiss, sauerkraut, and our made from scratch Thousand Island dressing.

White codfish, hand battered on toasted French bread with lettuce, tomato, and tartar sauce. The classic, on toasted white bread, loaded with ham, turkey, bacon, American cheese, lettuce and tomato. Chicken breast marinated in a tangy teriyaki sauce, grilled to perfection and served on a bun. Piles of hot beef on white bread, with a double order of mashed potatoes, and all covered in delicious brown gravy.
Services
Rotier's has been serving cold beer, burgers, and handmade milkshakes since 1945. John and Evelyn Rotier started the restaurant after WWII, the building was originally a carriage house for the Elliston Mansion. Rotier's started as a beer joint with cheeseburgers and pinball machines, and later evolved into a full scale restaurant soon after gambling became illegal in Tennessee.

I had my first cheese burger at Rotier’s over 25 years ago and they are still just as good and the place hasn’t changed a bit! Great place to relax and reminisce with friends and family downtown or just stop in for a quick lunch. There is a rich history to the place and one of the oldest businesses in Nashville. Cheese burger with grilled onions and a fried egg on french bread with an order of their onion rings, Awesome!

What a surprise! My cousin brought me here on a recent visit to Nashville. I had NO IDEA what I was in for. Had the French Bread Cheese Burger and chips. That burger was amazing. The chewy bread combined with the beef and cheese... oh my! I will return each time I visit Nashville. Delicious
And be prepared for a long wait unless you show up at 2:30pm, like we did. Well worth any wait there could be.

The best burger I have found in Nashville. It's an old style diner and the retro decorations take you back somewhere fun. Everything I have had there has been delicious. The onion rings... Just like my mom used to make.

Shoot, I hate to leave only two stars here. The atmosphere is wonderfully old school and every employee was sweet and as nice as they could be. All in all though, I waited 30 minutes on site and paid $12 (after tax) for a small burger on French bread that I would compare quality-wise to what you’d find at a concession stand at a high school football game, and five onion rings. Both the burger and the rings were marked as signature items. The rings were very good. Just not very much food overall, or much to say about the burger, and all of it after a very long wait. Walked out disappointed.

This was such a great place to eat. It was just a hole in wall restaurant we decided to take a chance on. They had the best friend pickles I've had in a long time. They were adorable and honestly some of the best food we've had on our vacation. Definitely recommend!

Been going here for years and still love it. The sweet tea is "to die for" especially if you are hungover. I always get the grilled cheeseburger but hear that other things on the menu are good too!

French bread cheeseburger was a unique taste, sweet potato fries were good and home made chips were good. Some in our group wished the burger had more seasoning or flavor. Atmosphere has that of an old neighborhood bar. We went on a Saturday for lunch and didn’t have to wait long for a table, our server was very nice and was handling a lot of tables, she did a good job. Overall it was good but was expecting something amazing based on other reviews we read.

Best cheeseburgers and milkshakes in Nashville! I've been coming here for 20 years and there's no place like it! You can get your cheeseburger on a regular bun, French bread out my favorite way, grilled (like Texas toast). I usually get a side of fries and onion rings (half & half) and the fried pickled are good too!
