Gorat's Steak House has been an Omaha tradition for more than 70 years. Founded in 1944 by Louis and Nettie Gorat, and subsequently operated by their son, Louis, Jr. - affectionately known as "Pal" - and his family, Gorat's has catered to generations of Omaha families and visitors alike, proudly serving quality steaks, Italian specialties and other local favorites.
A longtime Omaha restaurateur purchased Gorat's in the fall of 2012. After an updating of the interior and kitchen, the restaurant reopened in December of 2012. The menu continues the tradition of local Italian steak house fare with the addition of new favorites such as signature entrees, tantalizing salads and freshly prepared pastas.

I enjoyed this experience. I think they were generous with their salt and is the only reason they got a 4 and not a 5. Server was fantastic. He did go above and beyond. We had the crab cake appetizers which is huge and had a lot of celery flavor in it. The crab cakes had a very crispy edge, delightful. The pork chops were fantastic with a perfect sear. Cauliflower that came with were
Golden brown but very salty. The compote had a lot of allspice. The filet with whiskey glaze was perfectly cooked medium well. No pink that I could see which is perfect for me. The sautéed onions had a lot of Worcestershire

Came here on a Dec 23 for a little pre Christmas reunion dinner with some old friends and found the food just as good as It was when my family used to order steak sandwiches and fries to go growing up. It was my first time eating inside the Restaurant . It was spacious and clean. We had drinks at the bar prior to eating and there was some live music which was nice. Once seated we had great onion ring and ravioli appetizers. This was followed by a crispy, zesty Italian salad. But the highlight was the medium rare sirloin coated in some whiskey glaze. Perfectly cooked, savory, and succulent

Used to love this place when I lived in Omaha 20 years ago. The food was good but the service was slower than sloths running the DMV. It took 40 minutes to get our appetizer. We got our meal an hour and 20 minutes after we got there and only because we complained. My steak also had to get sent back for being raw. Would have loved to get dessert but we didn't have time.

My husband had a craving for prime rib, and since were from out of town, his sister said we could go downtown and pay about 65 bucks at a very nice place. We didn't wish to go to downtown Omaha, so he said is there anything closer. She said absolutely, Gratz is about three minutes from here. We couldn't of been happier with our choice!
When we entered, there was a band playing that was nice music, but my husband has a little hard of hearing,, so we asked for a quieter place in the restaurant.
She took us back into the dining room, where tables were well-spaced, and she said we could

I hadn't had prime rib in over a year and was really jonesing for one while visiting my sister in Omaha. She said the best place was downtown and figure it would be $65. I really wasn't wanting to drive downtown and she recommended this more local eatery.
We secured reservations and proceeded to the place. Tons of parking, no hassles there.
Once inside noticed that a vocalist and band were in bar, and sound was drifting into dining area. Asked hostess for the quietest area, she pointed out a spot and also suggested Warren Buffet's private dining roo--"He's not coming

No frills, non Bougie still white table, and Warren buffets favorite steakhouse. Wow, we sat amongst tables where the top shareholders of Berkshire Hathaway sat as well. Felt very honored.
Excellent seasoned flavorful local corn fed steak at a fantastic value, wine as well had a short list of great selection.
Got Warren buffets favorite, t-bone cooked rare perfect. Tender and juicy. Whiskey ribeye was a tad over on the medium rare but that sauce was very tasty, like a teriyaki cooked down with whiskey.

One of Omaha's last original steakhouses, Gorat's is a place that you have to eat at. The exterior of the building is pure Mid Century Modern, it looks like a place that Sammy and Dean would be driving up in a '61 T-Bird. Once inside, the decor has changed and onr thing that I dislike is change, but the improvements match the exterior and once I got used to it, I like it. The food was extraordinary, but it's hard to find a bad steak in Omaha unless you go to those chains that serve up that garbage. The filet was killer, as were the sides. The service is great, but I wouldn&apos

Overall this is a decent place in Omaha. I had low expectations after hearing one of my coworkers talk about having bad experiences here but I am glad we gave it a try.
The service here was kinda slow but that seems to be an Omaha wide trend right now due to the lack of waitstaff. I really hope they are able to get more help soon! For my meal I ordered the ribeye with a caesar salad and gravy mashed potatoes. My steak was cooked decently and was quiet good for the price. The sides were also good so no complaints there. Our table did have a big issue when one of the other members also ordered the

Yep, Ron Pullen has done it yet again. He's turned a nice restaurant in Omaha into a hot mess.
He's made sure to get rid of longtime employees who are beloved by us, the guests and I have no doubt it will be a become as filthy dirty as Fuddruckers was.
Ron, do Omaha restaurants and their patrons a favor and move back to Colorado.
As long as Ron is running Gorat's, we won't be back, that is a guarantee.

(1) The steaks are great; They're good at what they do. (2) The prices are cheap.
It's local and a metropolitan gem, so I wish I could give them more than 3 stars but besides the perfection of the steaks, there's not much to rave about.
Their sides and salad "game" is not on point! My husband and I discussed that we would gladly pay more for a better salad and better sides (tonight was Italian Green Beans, don't know if that's the usual).
We saved room for dessert and they were good but not anything special either.
All and all:
Would we go back? No. We

My mom ordered a Top Sirloin steak and was given a "chopped sirloin." The waitress obviously couldn't hear and next time should repeat the order. Nobody at our table knew a "chopped sirloin" even existed?! It looked like chopped up ground beef. Who even orders that? Since my mom ordered it medium rare, it came out very raw. My mom was disgusted by it and then didn't want to eat anymore. My food was good. I got a filet mignon with mashed potatoes and asparagus. My friend got blue cheese butter on the side to put on her steak, which was so delicious! Although my food

Gorat's is an Omaha legend!
I've been to Gorat's a few times, and the charm just can't be beat. Servers are the friendliest, and the food is solid to match.
The filet is my personal favorite, along with their famous onion rings and hash browns. Recently, I was able to stop by for happy hour. $4 Old Fashioned drinks and $5 Steak Bites? Best value in the city.
Gorat's is not your urbane downtown chop house. You'll figure that out when you can't find the valet. It's on a completely different level. And sometimes, I like that level even more.

My sister had her rehearsal dinner at Gorat's, and although I gave them three stars, I was still pleasantly surprised at our experience and the taste of the food.
FOOD : The majority of us ordered the filet with a side of asparagus and a baked potato. Truth be told, the filet was fire. I actually really liked it and didn't expect it to be as good as it was. They did a great job and it wasn't over or under done - just right. The baked potato was ok, it was slightly under cooked and still decently hard which I didn't love, and it wasn't super hot either. Other than that

I don't come to this part of Omaha often, so I had no idea this place existed!
The restaurant is very beautiful, and there was live music on the Saturday night we visited. We came here for dinner after a rehearsal. Most of our party ordered either the 8oz fillet or the chicken fried steak. I'm more quantify than I am quality (although obviously I love both) so I went with the chicken fried steak! It was delicious, and I was so stuffed by the end of it. The mash potatoes were good as well! It came with three pieces of asparagus, and I felt like the asparagus wasn't ripe but that

An Omaha institution--over 75 years in business--that still delivers quality at reasonable prices.
Steak is not the only treat here--various pasta dishes, seafood and country fried steak make it perfect for large groups. But steak is why we came.
Began by trying three appetizers--two are winners, the spinach dip and especially the toasted ravioli. Large pieces perfectly cooked and a filling tasty marinara sauce. Spinach dip is better than most, with salty chips being perfect foils to the cocktails (a mule and Old fashioned, no complaints on either). The weak link was the o ion rings--absolutely

I hate giving Gorat's this three star because I love the decor, ambiance and the fact our national treasure Warren Buffet states that this is his favorite steak.
I ordered the T-bone medium rare with a nice array of sides. Loaded bake potato, Mushrooms, and a side of Shrimp. The steak was over cooked and really not at the meat quality I was expecting. This is a $41 steak and it was more like a $10 T-bone offered from a casino in old Las Vegas. I was very disappointed. The loaded bake potato was mediocre almost like it was pre-prepared and just sitting in a warmer for an hour or two
