Brothers Laki "Bill" (standing left) and George Sgourakis (in his mother's lap) with sister Voula were born in Arfara (), a former municipality in Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece. As youths in Greece, they could not afford to visit the Greek Islands. The brothers came to America and immigrated to Omaha in 1966.

PEKTIKA is the formal name for appetizers and is often used as a reference to eating a first course of a cuisine other than Greek cuisine. Most dips are served with pita bread. TOUR OF GREECE ~ $10.50 for two and $15.50 for four - Platter filled with Greek favorites: Tiropita, Spanakopita, Keftedes, Gyro Meat, and Feta.
GREEK VEGGIE SALAD ~ $8.50 (Small) or $10.50 (Large) - Classic Greek village salad of Tomatoes, Onions, Green Peppers, Cucumbers, Feta Cheese, and Kalamata Olives with your choice of Olive Oil or our Homemade House Dressing. We often drive from the farthest part of the metro area for the gyros. I imagine there are closer places, but we've never risked it. We ordered eight gyro plates and extra pitas, it's probably enough for twenty people. If you order them for take out ask to keep the pitas separate so they don't get soggy.

Greek Islands is always a great place to enjoy authentic Greek fare in a friendly, clean, family environment! We have been patrons for more than 20 years and have never left disappointed. Who doesn’t like Greek food? Nobody! And if you think you don’t… you haven’t been here. The gyros, pastichio, dolmathes, lamb shanks, moussaka… all wonderful dishes… but don’t overlook the Greek burger and the best steak fries this side of the state! I hadn’t been to Greek Islands in many many years and had been looking forward to a Greek salad when going with relatives last Sunday for a late lunch. Unfortunately, two of us in my party were sickened by bad (contaminated ) lettuce. Our third person didn’t have a lettuce salad and was fine. Food poisoning is horrible, especially for seniors. I can’t go back.

I've been wanting to eat here for years after hearing about how great it is and I finally made it. My roommate and I were not disappointed. The food was amazing and the service was wonderful. Loved the fresh bread and pitas, and the potatoes were incredible. Wish we had eaten earlier, as we missed out on the hummus. We both brought home leftovers. Definitely plan on returning.

[Best Review] Update. Returned two weeks ago and the menu prices have gone way up! Its just too expensive now. I've stopped going to the Greek Isle because of the high prices and instead I now go to the Greek restaurant on 42nd and Grover street. The food there is very good and it's more reasonably priced but here's my original review of the Greek Isle. ORIGINAL Review, This place offers excellent service and large portions of expertly prepared Greek food. Yes the Gyros are amazing but so is all of the other authentic Greek cuisine. This is my new favorite restaurant! if you like the photos I added

Our server was nice. The food was good, especially the hummus and warm pita bread...best hummus I've ever had! It did take them a long time to get our main dishes out, and the white sauce on the gyro wasn't all that good (it tasted more like french onion dip). All-in-all, decent place, I'd go back for their hummus! Oh, and their house salad dressing is fantastic!
