The Firm assists individuals and families in planning their estates. This includes reducing estate taxes and protecting the estate during life. We prepare Wills designed to reduce or eliminate federal estate taxes, Powers of Attorneys drafted to permit. The Firm represents family members seeking to petition the court to establish guardianship for an incapacitated adult or for a developmentally disabled child who can no longer care for themselves.
The Firm has handled complex cases in many. While government benefit programs such as SSI and Medicaid offer substantial health care coverage, the available cash benefits are minimal. Therefore, the Firm develops, designs and drafts Special Needs Trust, thus preserving the disabled person's eligibility.

Along with the stress of having lost a husband, came the stress of having to deal with much paperwork. Although, I have a better than average understanding of financial matters, I had not the slightest clue as to how to go about filing the Inheritance and Estate tax forms that the State of New Jersey requires.
Clients often ask me to explain how "Elder Law" differs from traditional estate planning. Whereas the estate planner and accountant help the client plan his or her estate, the Elder Law Practitioner counsels the client on how to live his or her remaining years in dignity. Thus, Elder Law concentrates primarily on the person, the elder, and the type of life he or she desires, and only secondarily on his or her estate.
