At Terrapin restaurant, we are passionate about sourcing locally with sustainable farmers and area watermen. Chef Rodney has dealt with many of our local purveyors for over a decade turning business relationships into friendships. The Cromwell's family heritage dates back to the early 1900's when John Giles Cromwell farmed the land around Wards Corner in Norfolk, VA.
John & Betsy Cromwell have been carrying on the family tradition since 1983 on their 167 acre Virginia Beach farm. For almost a decade, the Cromwell's have supplied Chef Rodney with a wide range of locally grown produce. Depending on the time of the year, our menu might feature their butter beans, zucchini, corn, tomatoes, baby beets, butternut squash and sweet potatoes.

A great restaurant in Virginia Beach!
Came to celebrate my moms birthday and it was fancy but not overly fancy looking spot which was perfect for the family. We got seated in this area that looked like it could have been an outdoor addition to the restaurant. Cute spot with the greenery and decor they had.

Beautiful Establishment. The manager Bryan was so friendly and welcoming. Their Bartender Jordan was so knowledgeable and gave honestly the best customer Service I've ever had sitting at a bar. It wasnt crowded, the wait and kitchen staff didnt seem overwhelmed and the overall environment was amazing. I highly reccomend this spot for any occasion couple would love it as they have a 4 course tasting menu that my husband and I thorougly enjoyed.

The food was honestly much better than I expected, very fresh and seasoned perfectly, but the level of customer service at this establishment is TOP NOTCH!! You will not be disappointed. My experience was a little different, but I’m here leaving a review for that very reason. My original reservation was for 815, but due to unforeseen circumstances didn’t think we would make it to the restaurant before the last seating at 845, so with less than 8min to get to the restaurant I called and spoke to Brian to cancel. Could not wait to go there. Heard how great it was. Went for Christmas Eve dinner they put us in the terrace aka the garage. I felt like I was at the kids table. Food was okay. The butternut squash ravioli tasted like it was made with apple butter. There were dim squash squares in it. My husband got the rockfish and it was disappointing. The server was good but I would not go back

This was absolutely fantastic, was not super crowded, I had warm outside seating. My waitress Kate was so nice. I know I was super extra but she made my birthday dinner super fun. Thank you to the gentleman that let my have the Balloons at the front deck lol. Food was perfect, and the wine pairing was unique with the beef tartar..OMG The Rockfish was to die for YESSSSS.

Wow! What an ambiance to start, cool vibe right off the bat. Personalized menus for our anniversary; pretty nice touch. The appetizers were awesome. We fell in love with appetizers. When we thought it couldn't get any better, dinner was served!

We always search for the best restaurants in Va Beach when we visit on vacation. Well, this one is always the best! We keep coming back here because the food is perfection and the attention to detail that is given to our experience there! We had the chefs tasting menu 2 nights in a row. Between the two of us we sampled many dishes and they were all delicious. Don't believe the hype on the latest, greatest restaurants... they don't hold a candle to Terrapin. Do yourself a favor and make a reservation at the real number one restaurant....Terrapin!

We went to Terrapin tonight for our Anniversary. We sat out on the Terrace. They could not be more attentive. Even had menus printed up saying Happy Anniversary. It is pricey but no more pricey than any upscale restaurant where they labor over every detail. There is no cysco truck coming to Terrapin.Virginia Beach was never know for their restaurants but Terrapin is a game changer.

This place is classy, modern, and just good! The service is spectacular, above and beyond. the food is fresh fresh! Like, look at the turtle butter. Served with fresh made in house sourdough. They really outdid the experience and made it a great time. 👏 very pricey but made a great Birthday dinner for my girl! One she'll never forget💝

So, it would be convenient if reservations can also be made on Google Maps, but that is fine. Not a big deal.
This place...I would give it four stars for the ambience, the very nice staff, and very good food. I will not put their steak at the standard I would a steakhouse because that is not their focus. The presentation was good, and I think the experience, especially with my lady, was worth the price. The location is near the beach for you tourists and liked the ease of finding a spot to park.
That fourth star...it had to be taken because of hygiene which is huge. A hair was found in the dessert

Love the spot, service was great. It was tough to get reservation during Covid, but hopefully that changed already. Had the octopus and burrata, both were amazing tentacle slightly overdone but still amazing. Burrata was ok. Appetizer list was very limited but quality overall. Had the Josper filet mignon, perfectly done and blended well with the sides. Halibut was perfectly cooked and presented, taste wise. Truffle Mac and cheese is just another good Mac and cheese, only complaint is that the noodle were al Dante vice cook till soft for the Mac. Great place to try and will come back.

We went for pick-up a couple of days ago and we enjoyed as always. Recommend calling around 2pm for ordering and picking up for dinner time. Duck was cooked tender and the accompaniment was tied as well with the sauce. No words for the choco dessert with salt, it is next level. Terrapin is always a success!

Absolutely amazing! One of the 2 best places to eat in Virginia beach. Are they worth the 3 $$$? Absolutely!

There is no such thing as walk-in. They are busy and fully booked.

For covid they're doing outdoor seating on the patio only. It is air conditioned/heated with air circulation going out rather than recycled. You can only stay at your table for two hours. Since we got the last turn of the night that didn't really matter. We arrived 15-30 minutes early though, and the table before us was still finishing. The staff gave us champagne because we had to wait. How nice! It wasn't even anyone's fault

The food we experienced was cooked to perfection.. (on a limited menu due to Covid.) unfortunately we did not feel taken care of by our server. Our plates sat in front of us empty for quite some time, and no… one asked how many of our dishes were. Waited for server constantly for a wine. For the amount that they include for automatic gratuity I expected a higher level of service. Probably wouldn’t recommend.

I love this place! The food is really fresh and perfectly prepared. Portions are the perfect size. I had duck and my husband had Mahi Mahi and both were excellent. Atmosphere is beautiful and the wait staff is… attentive and knowledgeable. If you have a special occasion and tell them when you make the reservation they prepare a menu with your names and “happy anniversary” on it! Beautiful anniversary dinner!
