My husband and I have been coming here since 2017 when we bought our home. We were new to Plano and needed to find a replacement for our favorite Mexican restaurants from the Lakewood area.
We tried practically all of the options in Plano and El Norte became our absolute favorite. It’s been a staple of our weekly date nights ever since. 🙌
Now, this is Texas so there is only great Mexican food and on up from there, in my opinion. However, El Norte isn’t just great. It’s *excellent*. It really is heads and shoulders above the other options in Plano.
Their chips and salsa are made in-house

Free chips and salsa are always a bonus! Last Friday, We where sat at a table against the wall and the light fixture was directly next to my head and couldn't seat comfortably and asked to move to another table. Even though we moved the waitress still handled us accordingly. I had a chicken cheese mole on a hot plate. The vegetables that came on the plate where already burned into the plate and the chicken was a little tough. I will give it to the squash soup, it was very rich and perfectly cooked.

I've been a Plano resident for 35 years, driven past this place a thousand times, yet never eaten here. We decided if it's been here this long, it must be decent. Food was good, staff were friendly, and there was practically no wait despite a crowded dining area and seemingly few staff. Great place. We'll be back.

We love El Norte! The interior is cutely designed and the staff are always wonderful. Chips and salsa are Devine and I love love their southwestern corn.
If I could make some constructive feedback, the whole place desperately needs a swiffer. The dust bunnies are going to take over soon or land in someone’s food from the wood slats on the ceiling. Also, a ranch upgrade would be lovely. I keep trying the salads and keep being reminded why I don’t like them. Just my two cents but these won’t stop me from visiting el nortes!

The hostess was very nice and prompt. Server came right away and brought our drinks. Then we did not see her for 15 minutes. Sunday afternoon around 2, not that busy. Very expensive for what we got, large beef taco and beef enchilada, 11.95 and the beans were very runny. The beef was like a thick soup, very cheap meat. We used to go quite often but moved and our favorite dish was the mole enchildas. They were not on the menu anymore. Too expensive for such cheap product. I guess we should have got up and left when it took her so long to come back and take our order. Lesson learned.

I'm getting sick and tired of these restaurants slacking on delivery orders. I mean what the heck is going on? I ordered queso which they charge $8.25 for and look at the picture of how much was there. A picture is worth a thousand words. Added them to my list of restaurants not to order delivery from.

Went in for lunch today I tried the fajita Monday special because when u go to Mexican restraunt fajitas are usually cooked fresh the best thing on menu but the meat tasted old and had been frozen it was not fresh I had a stomach ache after I ate here . I cook better then this . The chicken was rubbery and steak was bland .

Do you ever see. Mexican restaurant & think to "what's different?" Oh man please dont underestimate El Norte! Not all Mexican food tastes the same & this spot is proof! Let me start by saying enchilada platter, beans, rice & bag of fresh hot chips & salsa is a must! You can choose 6, 8 or 10 & mix match! Cheese, beef or the very best sour cream enchiladas.
The salsa! If only I could make it myself!!! Perfect amount of garlic, perfect bite! Enjoy one of Planos very best, you will not be disappointed.

My wife and I have lived in Plano for 30 years and this is our go-to Mexican restaurant. The food is always fresh, tasty and cooked perfect. Service has always been top-notch. I had the Summer Salad tonight but tacos, soups and other menu items are top notch.
